If you’re an English‑speaking expat in Hong Kong carrying anxiety, relationship stress, or the weight of unresolved family‑of‑origin patterns, you deserve a space that feels safe and deeply supportive. Many of my clients are high‑achieving professionals who appear composed on the outside but privately feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in old relational cycles. Living abroad often brings these deeper emotional patterns to the surface.

I enjoy working with teens and adults and work to build a trusting and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship, where clients feel safe to express themselves authentically. I strive to create an environment where clients can explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences freely, while also providing practical tools and strategies to address their concerns. I aim to collaboratively explore and deconstruct the dominant narratives that contribute to client distress, while actively working towards constructing new, preferred stories that are more aligned with their values and aspirations.

Often this is not just about stress. You may be functioning well on the surface, but underneath something doesn’t quite fit. In many cases, this has to do with how different parts of your life come together: work, culture, relationships, identity. This can be especially true if you’ve lived or worked across cultures, or if expectations at work and at home pull in different directions. I work with people dealing with anxiety, burnout, loss or grief, addictive patterns, obsessive or intrusive thoughts, or who feel stuck or disconnected from what matters to them, or who are dealing with unresolved traumatic experiences.

Clients are usually coming in a stuck state, having a very bad mood a lot of days rendering them demotivated and weak to deal with their occupational, social, relational, and physical needs. They sometimes present themselves with stressed emotions and cyclical thoughts, and find themselves helpless with their current situations and conditions. Underlying the presenting issues could be deep-seated needs left unmet, such as to love and be loved and to be recognized, or trauma that happened as early as childhood. They want to break through as early as possible, lead a life that promises wellness, happiness and quality as anyone else.

We encounter various kinds of difficulties and challenges every day. At times, it can be challenging to open up to others, leaving us to confront these issues alone. This may lead to feelings of confusion and suffocation with a sense of powerlessness and lacking viable solutions. If you find yourself in a similar situation, exploring yourself through psychological counseling can provide you with more effective means to understand and address these emotions and difficulties. 'It is fine not to be fine', this motto has always been a cornerstone of my professional philosophy, so let’s talk and walk together if you are in need.

Life in Hong Kong moves quickly, and many of the people I work with look “fine” on the outside while quietly running on empty. You might be managing school or work and showing up for others, but feeling anxious, low, irritable, or just not yourself. I work with adults and teenagers experiencing stress and burnout, anxiety and overthinking, low mood, self‑esteem struggles, relationship or friendship issues, parenting challenges, and big life transitions.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counselling

How can I find a therapist inThe Peak?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
