Hello. Our life experiences have an impact on us and how we feel about ourselves, the world and the other people in it. I help people develop their confidence and self esteem and sometimes I help people to change the things in life that aren't working for them. For some people therapy is about reaching a point of acceptance with the things they can't change. We do this by working together to create a safe, supportive, respectful therapeutic relationship. I enjoy helping people to feel better about themselves and their lives.

Group therapy can help in addressing a range of problems, including anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. It has been demonstrated as often more effective than individual therapy and the two are particularly powerful when used in conjunction. It can create a sense of belonging. A place to be accepted by others and be yourself. All in this together: Group therapy shows group members that they are not alone, and that, while every situation is unique, others are on similar journeys as you.

This therapy group is open to adults of all ages and deals with a wide range of challenges. Group Analysis focuses on developing working relationships within the group to enable understanding and change. Group Analysis is based on the understanding that the underlying causes of difficulties are linked with your past and present social environment and experiences. This is best addressed in a group, where the relationships between the members themselves can help in understanding the difficulties you face in the rest of your life.

In my experience the most effective ways to deal with emotional and psychological difficulties problems are to address the underlying causes. This often involves understanding how you got to where you are now, including the impact others have had on you. Finding ways of improving your relationships is also often central to being able to make changes and feeling more able to deal with the challenges you face.

The invitation is to: stay as much as possible in the 'here and now', ..............in order to maximize the opportunity for authentic meeting with others and with yourself.............. This group space offers the prospect of interpersonal meeting and process: encounter with others invariably invokes all kinds of feelings inside the self, and this space offers the chance to experience and reflect on these. Therapy and/or counselling is for anyone People come for therapy for all sorts of reasons, and in all sorts of states. And I meet all sorts of people in my consulting room. You don’t have to be ‘ill enough’ or ‘sane enough’ or ‘distressed enough’ to make use of therapy: you just have to want to come and talk… or even not talk, if that’s what you need to do.
Are you looking for a more relaxed and free relationship with food? To be able to eat without guilt, tracking and obsessing over the calories you are consuming? This is a group to challenge those social norms and help you break free from diet culture, and restriction or binging. It is a weekly group, that meets for ten weeks in person.

But they're actually fairly common - in fact, one in four women will suffer from a miscarriage in their lifetime. Whether it's your first, your second or your fifth, know the paths to recovery will vary, as do our personalities, our support networks, and our preparedness. We launched our complex trauma programme, LifeBEAT, in Autumn 2021. It supports people who've been through adversity or trauma in their lives - particularly involving relationships, who may need a more support than talking therapies alone. Many people benefit from treatment that works with our mind and body, This why our programme offers access to psychologists, yoga therapy, nutritional therapy advice and peer support. The length of this process will be different for everyone, but may take anything from a few weeks to 18 months of group work. £20 per session, Low cost options for Trafford residents)

This is a group-based therapy also known as SPACE - supportive parenting for anxious childhood emotions. It is an evidence based model, with good results for children just by working with parents. We do not currently have a start date, but you can be added to the waiting list at any time. Parents of children who are experiencing anxiety, OCD, separation anxiety, difficulties attending school and other anxiety related difficulties would benefit from this group.

Do you find yourself getting easily overwhelmed? Perhaps you are tired of having a busy brain that overthinks, overanalyses, and critiques everything you do. Possibly you’ve been told you’re too sensitive, over-emotional or too caring. Unforeseen change and uncertainty may make you anxious and after periods of socialising, you need alone time to recharge. This might mean you feel different, or boring, leading you to think negatively about yourself. Perhaps you outwardly appear very “together” or successful but hide-away the fact that life seems harder for you than it does for others, leaving you feeling like an imposter.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in Hebden Bridge?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, postcode, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counselling is typically less expensive than individual counselling, with each session costing on average between £45 to £60. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from £60 to £150. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your group therapy sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for group therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
