Most people, at some point in their lives, experience emotional difficulties. This may be due to traumatic events, overload of stress, or issues stemming back to childhood. Talking through such difficulties can help to validate and make sense of your feelings, work out how to heal, and move on with positivity and meaning in your life.

Are you feeling stuck, unheard, unworthy? Are you living your best life, or is something holding you back? Life is challenging at times. Many things can trigger our internal critic, making us believe we are 'less than’ or are failing. We dwell in the past, worrying about mistakes, reliving painful events, remembering unhealthy relationships. It can feel impossible to see a way forward. There are many human emotions - are yours feeling balanced, or are one or two overwhelming the others?

At one point or another, most of us experience issues that require deeper attention and support. Whether that's feeling generally low and lacking enthusiasm for life, battling with depression, anxiety or bereavement, counselling can support you to get back on track. As well as these issues, I have a particular interest in disordered eating and family relationship struggles. Don't wait until you're on the brink of collapse before reaching out. Counselling can help you gain perspective, put your thoughts and feelings in order and carve a path back to happiness.

I help client's recover from social and relationship anxiety, low confidence, codependency (people pleasing/living for others/fear of losing people close to you/inflated sense of responsibility) attachment wounds and narcissistic abuse. Healthy self-esteem is crucial if you want to be happy and resilient during difficult times. If you have felt anxious most of your life you may have an anxious attachment type and I can help you recover from this. Long term anxiety and depression affects all areas of life, it is exhausting and can make you physically unwell.

Do you begin your day feeling anxious, low and lack of motivation, wondering your life is not going where you want to be?  Maybe you wake up during the night worrying and stressed about the day ahead? Are you wondering why you feel so lost and lonely, not fitting in whether it is relationship with your partner, family members, friends or even colleagues at work.  Maybe you are a couple feeling increasingly unhappy, fed up and tired with constant arguing or not talking about things?   You are worried about the future of your relationship?

Whether you are struggling with a life event or you carry unhelpful patterns from the past, I would like to help you manage the present more to your satisfaction. I will listen and try to understand what life is like for you. If you feel that you are not good enough and that your low self-esteem is impacting on your choices and the view of yourself, life can be hard. Experiencing problems in important relationships in your life, or struggling to connect with people, can make you feel isolated. Talking to somebody could be the first helpful step.

The counselling I provide offers you the time and space that so many of us need but often lack, especially when life becomes hard or you feel less able to cope as you once did. You may be struggling with depression, low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, a relationship breakdown, bereavement, or perhaps there is no label that can best describe where you are at right now. Whatever the case and wherever you are at, I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for you to begin your counselling journey.

I am passionate about helping people not only to feel better after a therapy session, but also to have insights, techniques, and support to feel better in the long term. I will work with you to understand how your psychological issues developed, what is maintaining them and how you can overcome them, in a safe and supportive way. After each session I will send you an email with key learning, helpful reflections and insights you gained and resources to build on our session across the week. I run my private practice alongside my role in a busy NHS trust where I have delivered psychological therapy and supervision for the past 12 years

With much understandable anxiety, overwhelm, depression, loss and sadness at this time, I offer a caring, safe, confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space to explore whatever brings you to therapy at this time. Alongside you, I may work towards enabling a surer sense of yourself; safely working with relationship issues (in the past or present); to understand life-changes (e.g. divorce/separation/retirement/identity issues/ bereavement and loss); and in working traumatic moments or life-events. I offer short and longer term work. Each session can potentially discover something new as a spur to growth and healing.

All of us, at times, find ourselves in a place of challenge, pain or trauma, or perhaps simply wanting to see a way forward and change the situation we’re in. Looking for a counsellor takes courage and is hugely positive too because it shows you’re ready for the changes you want to see happen in your life. I am a person-centred psychotherapist ready to support you in that change, and happy to work with you face to face or online, and at whatever pace works best for you.

Hi there, I’m Canse and I appreciate you looking on my profile. Is everything just overwhelming? Are you waking up every day feeling low, numb or empty but confused why? Do you have a chapter you do not read aloud because it is too painful, leaving you surviving instead of thriving? You are not alone. Let’s talk, I would love to help you live a more fulfilling life. It can help to talk to someone not connected to your personal life and it can be safer to revisit things with a professional.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
