Most people, at some point in their lives, experience emotional difficulties. This may be due to traumatic events, overload of stress, or issues stemming back to childhood. Talking through such difficulties can help to validate and make sense of your feelings, work out how to heal, and move on with positivity and meaning in your life.

Hello and welcome. We all need some help in life and, as a qualified and accredited counsellor, I am here to support you and work with you, in any areas causing you distress. You are not alone. We can work together to understand and explore your difficulties. We can strengthen your mental health and emotional resilience. You may feel incomplete, anxious, under pressure, have low self-esteem or simply feel overwhelmed with thoughts and feelings and feel unable to move forward. You may be a young person or adult experiencing difficulties, or you may be a parent/carer of a young person and feel as if you're struggling to cope.

I have a special interest in helping people recover from codependency (people pleasing/living for others) attachment injury and narcissistic abuse. Having healthy self-esteem is crucial if you are to experience a happy life and be resilient during difficult times. If you have felt anxious throughout your life, it comes and goes and you cannot understand why, you may have an anxious attachment type. This affects all parts of life and it is something you can change. Therapy is challenging. Holding up the mirror and seeing passive-aggressive parts of ourselves is not easy but it can change your life. Choose you.

At one point or another, most of us experience issues that require deeper attention and support. Whether that's feeling generally low and lacking enthusiasm for life, battling with depression, anxiety or bereavement, counselling can support you to get back on track. As well as these issues, I have a particular interest in disordered eating and family relationship struggles. Don't wait until you're on the brink of collapse before reaching out. Counselling can help you gain perspective, put your thoughts and feelings in order and carve a path back to happiness.

Are you feeling stuck, unheard, unworthy? Are you living your best life, or is something holding you back? Life is challenging at times. Many things can trigger our internal critic, making us believe we are 'less than’ or are failing. We dwell in the past, worrying about mistakes, reliving painful events, remembering unhealthy relationships. It can feel impossible to see a way forward. There are many human emotions - are yours feeling balanced, or are one or two overwhelming the others?

I appreciate that it can feel difficult in asking for help and to put trust in someone you have never met, especially with often upsetting and difficult issues. It can feel like we may have somehow failed or its a last resort in trying to resolve difficulties. I have helped many people like yourself, who also felt unsure initially on what to expect and feelings of trepidation or embarrassment in asking for help. I believe that the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is all important to be effective in addressing the issues and helping you to make the changes that you want and to get things back on track.

The counselling I provide offers you the time and space that so many of us need but often lack, especially when life becomes hard or you feel less able to cope as you once did. You may be struggling with depression, low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, a relationship breakdown, bereavement, or perhaps there is no label that can best describe where you are at right now. Whatever the case and wherever you are at, I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for you to begin your counselling journey.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
