What informs my practice is a concern for respecting and valuing difference and the importance of caring communication in all relationships. We work together to bring about your own awareness of what needs to change in order move on in your life. Sometimes we are overwhelmed at what is happening to us, or we feel we have no control over our own lives. We can explore new ways of understanding ourselves and our relationships so that we can influence or even change our future. My approach is to work in collaboration with you. I am not the expert in your life, you are, but we can both bring our knowledges and expertise into the relation

Welcome to my page. As a registered and Chartered Psychologist, I would work with you (face to face or online) to understand your psychological distress and to heal from difficult past experiences. I have worked with adults and older adults and currently work within the NHS as a Highly Specialist Psychologist in a psychology service for medical trauma and I also work for Traumatic Stress Wales. We would discuss the therapeutic approach that fits for you (EMDR, trauma-focused CBT or integrative approaches) and regularly review this to ensure you were getting the most benefit from your therapy. I look forward to hearing from you.

I love what the Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy College (HIPC) says: "Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy relies upon the importance of the relationship between the therapist and client to enable mind, body, feeling, and soul to come together as a whole." I know how vital the one-to-one relationship is in helping you re-discover or discover who you are for the first time and find your place in the world. My approach is relational, where we work together on the issues you want to look at co-creatively.

Most people experience anxiety or depression at some point in their lives and need to cope with pain and confusion. You may feel stuck and unmotivated or need to work through a traumatic experience from your past so you can move on with your life. You might also experience work related stress or be dealing with relationship difficulties. Self-development may also be the reason for seeking therapy. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore and make sense of your difficulties in a safe, non-judgmental environment, to develop your self-understanding and improve your relationships.

You are probably feeling very upset, alone and confused, maybe even ashamed and wondering if counselling could help? Everyone who comes to therapy has a unique set of issues but the underlying need to share the distress and be understood, is true for everyone. If you are struggling with parenting, postnatal depression, miscarriage or your identity as a woman you are not alone. I have lots of experience working with women (and men) who are struggling with family life and want to feel better than they currently do. I also help young people with identity and self esteem issues, self harm, anxiety and sad feelings

Know thyself is an ancient aphorism that encourages individuals to explore and gain a deeper understanding of themselves. The phrase dates back to ancient Greece, where it was inscribed on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. At its core, know thyself is a call to introspection, self-awareness, and personal growth. It encourages you to look within, explore your thoughts and emotions, and gain insight into their motivations, values, and beliefs. By knowing yourself, you can better understand your strengths and weaknesses, make more informed choices, and live a more authentic and fulfilling life.

For some of us, it can take years to reach out for help and I understand that. When a client contacts me, I know its a big step. Regardless of your past, your family and your story, I believe that you have the ability to heal and thrive in your life. I am trained and experienced to sit with you to help you find YOUR answers. Together we go on a journey of discovery to see how you have got to where you are today but most importantly how you can find your power and strength to overcome your challenges. You deserve to be healthy, happy and at peace. You do not need to be in serious crisis to go for therapy.

I use skype and zoom for the video sessions. I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I provide a confidential and professional one to one counselling service for adults, young people and children over the age of 11 years.

I have 15 years of experience as a Counsellor and Hypnotherapist and I know that the reason you are even reading this is because you or someone you know needs help. How do we start? A simple chat, either over the phone or online. We will discuss your worries or issues and together work out the best way forward. This may be just one method or a combination of therapies. You will be in control of this and it can be changed as we progress, I offer this in a safe, confidential and non judgemental environment. Many of my clients choose to split sessions into 1/2hr Counselling and 1/2hr Hypnotherapy.

I qualified as a ChildLine counsellor in 2006 and worked there for many years. Currently I practise as an integrative face to face psychotherapist/counsellor mainly with adults. I have experience in a wide range of issues having had clients referred through their GP and through self-referral. I treat every client as an individual and so the approach to counselling will also be individual and with respect to your individual circumstances. I strongly believe in therapy being within your control but with the support and encouragement needed to understand your situation and to work on how you may want to change things in your life.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
