I am a qualified BACP registered counsellor and clinical supervisor with extensive experience working with people from all walks of life , ages and cultures. My work focusses on enabling people to find more confidence , joy and clarity and to help them create the life they want to live - whatever that looks like for them. We lived in a highly stressful time and it can be very easy to become anxious and depressed which without help can lead to feelings of helplessness and despair. Therapy offers a safe space to explore those difficult feelings, and often bringing those dark thoughts into the light can bring some relief.

As we move through our journey in life, from young adulthood, through middle years and into eldership, we face continually changing joys and challenges. Coming into counselling with me at any of these stages will involve us exploring your unique path in life and helping you find ways to embrace that uniqueness more completely. My own journey has involved human rights awareness and mediating cultural inequality issues. I have worked with individuals, groups and communities to foster healing and positive change.

If you're seeking an experienced therapist with a deep understanding of both professional and personal life challenges, contact me. I provide a safe space where you and I explore difficult feelings and gain enhanced awareness of how past and present relationships, break-ups, grief or traumas may be affecting you from day to day. Your feelings of enjoyment and fulfilment in life may be painfully disrupted. Work pressures, difficult relationships, lack of support, sleep interruptions are just some of the factors that can drain your energy and leave you feeling low, lacking motivation and depressed.

I have the ability to really sit and think with adolescents and young people (up to the age of 25 years) and their families and consider their emotional experiences. They may be worried about life transitions, such as the next steps after leaving university or moving schools, or parental divorce. They may have social anxiety or had a traumatic experience. Rest assured that no worry is too small or too to think about. Good emotional health starts with a safe place to talk. No judgement, just someone to really think with you about your circumstances, either face to face or via virtual appointments.

Are you anxious about your relationship?  It can be very daunting and even feel shameful or disloyal to approach a therapist about personal problems in your relationship or the fact that you aren't in one or find it hard to sustain one.  We seek help for other concerns why not with relationship problems?  Therapists, like carpenters have tools to offer that can help you make repairs. Speaking about your concerns aloud with an experienced and empathetic listener can disempower the anxiety so the work of recovery can begin.  I have enjoyed working in the NHS and privately over many years on relationship and sexual problems.

Are you yearning for change in your life but finding yourself unsure of where to begin? My therapeutic approach is systemic and solution focused. Instead of treating the troubled parts of ourselves as problems to get rid of, the method reveals them as aspects that want to be seen. By exploring the underlying, and often unseen, dynamics of an issue, new understandings and fresh insight can be revealed. I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space to explore your concerns. My aim is to help you gain a deeper understanding of the root causes of your distress, empowering you to find solutions and move forward in your life.

Hello, I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist who is available for sessions with young people and adults. I practice using an integrative approach based on the combined principles of psycho-dynamic and person-centred therapies. I believe that the most healing factor in therapy is the therapeutic relationship and I aim to provide a safe environment for someone to explore their emotions and any difficulties that they might be experiencing. My approach is geared to the individual needs of the client, and I am able to facilitate different types of therapy from reflective to creative.

I’m an experienced psychotherapist trained to the highest level in my profession with a doctorate in psychotherapy and counselling psychology. I believe that psychotherapy can create a non-shaming, safe space for you to explore the unsaid, to give voices to thoughts and feelings previously unknown. Psychotherapy can be challenging but growthful work that could increase awareness of yourself, create new meanings, and live life more in the present. Research shows that the most important factor in the success of therapy is client motivation - you have to really want to change for it to happen, and I am here to support that journey.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
