Are past experiences or traumas impacting your life? Do you feel like you should be “over it” by now, but the past still keeps affecting the present? My name is Fi and I can help you unravel the hurt from past trauma. I'm not your typical therapist. I've been known to drop a well-placed swear word or three, because sometimes life's challenges call for a hearty dose of real talk. I specialise in Trauma Counselling but see clients with a wide range of issues. Trauma can be an overwhelming and complex experience, affecting every aspect of our lives.

I am a Relationship and Psychosexual Therapist with 30 plus years of experience. I also offer clinical supervision to colleagues. Counselling can actively improve a couple's communication and potentially make sense of unhelpful patterns of communication and/or behaviour. Clients say that their relationships are stuck in a rut and that the communication and often their sex life, that once was easy, is now fraught with difficulties. Often people struggle with their sexual difficulty in silence, feeling embarrassed and ashamed, unable to discuss their issues with anyone. I can help and guide you through this difficult place.

Life can be hard to handle - tough and confusing at any age or stage. Relationships, events, success, failure, change, gain and loss turn our lives upside down at any moment, disrupting our "normal" destabilising us and impacting our physical and mental health and general wellbeing. And when we don't choose what happens to us, eg abuse, accident, addiction, bereavement, deprivation, divorce, illness, money troubles, prejudice, redundancy, relocating, it can be doubly hard to adjust and adapt, to find a way through grief and trauma to emotional survival and personal growth.

I’m a strong believer that, in the words of Nelson Mandela “there is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living” – yet sometimes life is really quite tough and we find ourselves struggling and this ideal seems far from our reality. You may find yourself feeling emotionally overwhelmed, anxious or lonely. Or, you may have been struggling for some time and haven’t found the motivation to address it but now that struggle may be feeling a little bigger.

We all experience challenges at stages in our life, maybe you are feeling stuck or anxiety is holding you back from the life you want. Perhaps, even you are noticing a pattern or behaviour that no longer feels helpful. I work with a range of clients and have a special interest working with those struggling with anxiety or their self-identity in or out of relationships.

I’m a Clinical Psychologist, working with high achievers who struggle with high functioning anxiety, self-confidence and self-esteem, burnout, stress, and relationship difficulties. If on the surface you look like you have it all together, but the silent voice of self-doubt plagues you, then we will likely work well together. I like to work with the heart of a matter, rather than treat symptoms at a surface level. I work with both adolescents and adults, and have over 13 years experience in mental health. I have a fantastic team of Psychologists working with me, and we also specialise in ADHD, ASD and ADHD assessments.

Welcome. Life can be tough. Sometimes we simply need to talk with someone who can listen without judgement; who does not 'give advice' but holds the space for personal reflection, growth and development. As a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), I am an independent, experienced and professional counsellor / psychotherapist, an approved Adoption counsellor and qualified in EMDR therapy. I work with young people and adults, including couples and families, across such issues as anxiety, bereavement, depression, relationships and trauma.

My clients often feel painfully stuck in some way and that's why they come to me. Problems become overwhelming. For instance, being unhappy in a marriage; having a serious illness and dealing with its effects; feeling low and not understanding why; dealing with divorce; having problems with one's children and not being sure how to manage; wanting to move forward in life but just not managing somehow; work issues - struggles with colleagues, dissatisfaction with a career. Anxiety, depression and confusion usually accompany these challenging life situations.

Hi, I'm Suzy. Are you looking for an empathic, experienced therapist? It's really hard to grow in isolation and create change on your own ... and it takes courage to seek support ... but through counselling, you could get to a place where your life feels more comfortable - a place you really want to be and somewhere you could flourish and feel content. I can't wave a magic wand but I can support you in reaching the goal of living your best life. I will give you my undivided attention - 'the most valuable thing you can do for another human being' (Rich Roll) - and I really look forward to talking to you.

Something is standing in the way of you living the life you want to lead. You may feel tired of the way that you are living or feeling - completely 'full up'. This could be showing up as burnout from personal or professional commitments, in relationship problems that are following a familiar pattern, or in seeming outwardly successful but feeling the opposite on the inside. You may find it difficult to identify and say what you need, or experience outbursts of anxiety or rage. Your inner critic may take a walk on the wild side too often.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
