I know how scary it can be to reach out and ask for help, especially when life is already a struggle. I believe that nobody should have to face their difficulties alone. Which is why I commit to providing you with a warm, accepting and safe space where we can explore your challenges together. I am passionate about making counselling as easy as possible to access. Providing remote sessions that you can attend from any safe and private space. I have lived experience of chronic illness and neurodivergence and understand first hand some of the barriers people face in accessing support.

Over the last five years, much of my work has been with adults with autism and ADHD.
“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations” (anon) People seek counselling for a wide range of reasons, but what’s certain is that we’ve all experienced travelling down a difficult road. Regardless of where you are on your journey, as a counsellor, my job is to provide a safe space for you to explore difficulties and progress confidently in your chosen direction.

I work extremely well with emotions allowing you to activate and focus on your emotional state and thus helping you to manage problematic emotional situations and self-experiences. I integrate Mindfulness Practice principles and Mindfulness training within my practice, in order to helping clients to learn to become more self-aware and more present in the present, thus alleviating stress and anxiety in general. In addition, I support my clients to develop a healthy relationship with themselves and with their body, as I believe it’s paramount to consider the needs of our system in general, when working with our mental health.

I'm a counsellor & psychotherapist who believes that each person has the capacity for personal growth and self-healing. My role is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your true potential. Whilst working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, loss, trauma & low self esteem, I have noticed that people's behaviours and responses no longer support them in their lives and result in many unwelcome feelings. Together, we will create the space for you to process what has become difficult, at a pace that is right for you, helping to find meaning and purpose as you navigate life's challenges.

Hello, my name is David and thank you for taking the time to read my profile. The fact that you’re considering seeing a counsellor means that you’re unhappy with a part of your life, whether it be an unfulfilling relationship, an uncertainty about career or lifestyle choices, or thoughts and behaviours that inhibit your ability to lead the life that you once dared to imagine. The pandemic has also forced people to look again at their life and reappraise what they really want from it.

Hi, I’m Conor, an Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist. More importantly, I’m a person - just like you. I’ve experienced life’s joys, challenges and messiness - maybe not so different from what you’re facing now. I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach to therapy because no two people are the same, so I integrate various therapeutic approaches to tailor our sessions to what we feel is helpful for you and your unique experiences. To me, therapy can be a space for anything between serious work and humour but it isn’t rocket science – we're two people meeting, listening, and responding.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
