I use art therapy in order to achieve this, whether that be mark making, clay, paint, collage of other materials the client feels comfortable using.
I specialise in working with chilfren and young people around issues of identity, in particular, LGBTQ+. My work covers issues of mental health, anxiety and depression, eating disorders, substance misuse and self-harm and suicide. I am able to work with young people and their carers jointly.

It can be a very stressful time for clients reaching out and making the first appointment, I completely understand this, but I would like to reassure and make you feel relaxed and listened to in a safe space, I myself was once the client and have had a difficult and challenging past and this was one of the reasons I went into counselling. I offer hourly sessions from £50. My approach is to offer you Person-Centered therapy, which means a warm, non-judgemental and empathic understanding of your difficulties and concerns. Coming to therapy can seem like a big step. But in my experience with clients, it is usually the beginning of a liberating time when past and present concerns can be expressed and understood with emotions examined and transmuted. Learning how to accept and navigate difficult life situations can be really beneficial, as you discover what choices are available to you in how to handle difficult emotions and thought patterns. Many of our core beliefs were formed when we were young and not fully conscious of the choices we were making about our world. Therapy gives you the chance to look at yourself and your issues in new ways.

I'm Kelly, my work is grounded in curiosity, care, and deep respect for your individual journey. Many people come to therapy carrying invisible burdens such as fears, anxieties, overwhelm or experiences that have been held alone for too long. You may be feeling that the world sees one version of you, but underneath you carry emotional heaviness that is invisible to others. Therapy offers a space to slow down and gently explore what’s happening to bring understanding to your experience. My approach is relational, meaning that the relationship we build together becomes a central part of the healing process.

I'm a counsellor & psychotherapist who believes that each person has the capacity for personal growth and self-healing. My role is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your true potential. Whilst working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, loss, trauma & low self esteem, I have noticed that people's behaviours and responses no longer support them in their lives and result in many unwelcome feelings. Together, we will create the space for you to process what has become difficult, at a pace that is right for you, helping to find meaning and purpose as you navigate life's challenges.

I am a qualified Therapist with 8 years of experience working within the NHS mental health, addiction & Trauma pathways. The key to my work with clients is the belief that, through a psychotherapeutic relationship, we can gain insights into our patterns of behaviour. Working relationally, we can explore the possibility of change and begin to consider alternative positions that lead towards a more compassionate and fulfilled version of ourselves. My primary modalities of working with my clients involve addressing the unmet needs of our life experiences in early years, exploring the relational needs that may have been left unattended.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
