Emotional well being is something we can often take for granted, and more often than not we do not take time to attend to our emotional well being until we begin to struggle to maintain a balance. You may just need some space to reflect safely and without judgement. Perhaps you are overwhelmed by the pressures of life, stuck in a rut, repeating negative patterns, or trying to find a way out of anxiety or depression . Maybe you just don’t feel able to share your worries and concerns with those around you? Maybe you just don’t feel like ‘you’ and would like to explore why, or you have feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness.

I work with adults who may feel they need additional support to help manage stress, improve their mood, or cope with change and adversity. Often these are adults who might describe symptoms and distress associated with anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression , trauma and PTSD. In our sessions together we develop a shared understanding of what may be causing and maintaining your difficulties so that we can begin a journey to help you feel less distressed and move towards recovery. I am passionate about empowering people to make meaningful change in their life to alleviate their distress and difficulties.

Hello, my name is David and thank you for taking the time to read my profile. The fact that you’re considering seeing a counsellor means that you’re unhappy with a part of your life, whether it be an unfulfilling relationship, an uncertainty about career or lifestyle choices, or thoughts and behaviours that inhibit your ability to lead the life that you once dared to imagine. The pandemic has also forced people to look again at their life and reappraise what they really want from it.

My specialities are: Bereavement/Grief, Anxiety, Depression , Substances, and relationships (individuals only).
Do you need a safe confidential place to speak openly, with someone neutral and non-judgemental? You may be looking to make some changes, or have a dilemma to talk through. Maybe you've lost a loved one or pet, feel isolated or stressed, or have a problem that's preventing you from moving forward. I work to understand things from your viewpoint, and to build a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel comfortable enough to be yourself. I listen, understand, accept, and believe, and appreciate that talking about feelings is difficult. Being interactive means that you'll get much more than 'hmms' and 'uh-huhs' from me.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Ogmore Vale. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
