I am a Clinical Psychologist working in the NHS with children, adolescents and families who are experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including; mental health, attachment and parenting. Sometimes therapy involves seeing the person on their own, and other times it can involve the wider family as well. Our sessions will start by getting to know you better, and what your main difficulties are at present, in the context of your life experiences. Helping you to understand why you are having such difficulties will help us to tailor our psychological intervention to your specific needs. I will be with you every step of the way.

Whatever you're going through in life counselling provides you with non-judgmental and empathic support. Being seen and heard goes a long way towards starting to feel better. Honest and open communication tends to bring insight and clarity. This promotes growth, which ultimately results in change and acceptance. Reflection can help to make long lasting positive changes to you, your relationships and your future. The space to unburden and review your coping strategies can improve confidence and self-worth. A confidential space also means there's no need to worry about the impact of opening up to those around you.

You can usually function well but at stressful times you have felt stuck and overwhelmed. As a therapist, we challenge your past patterns and stumbling blocks while developing your coping strategies so you can thrive. I can support you in a trauma-informed way by integrating attachment, shame, and basic neuroscience. I have years of experience but I see every person as unique. As a leadership coach, I work with value-based SMEs whose creativity feels blocked. I support growth with staff ‘splash’, imposter syndrome and learning from mistakes. Listening to your authentic voice brings clarity of thinking for effective development.

Hello I am a qualified counsellor specialising in pluralistic practice. The pluralistic theory is an integrated approach meaning I am comfortable working in different types of therapy, such as person centred, CBT, and solution focused. The pluralistic approach believes that as human’s we are all unique, and therefore therapy should be tailored towards a client’s specific goals and needs, taking their individual experiences and preferences into account. I am passionate about this approach and believe therapy should be a collaborative effort where the client and counsellor work together towards achieving a shared aim.

Life after painful experiences can feel heavy - as if you’re carrying memories and patterns that won’t let you move forward. You may find it hard to sleep, to stay calm and present, or to feel in control of your emotions. Perhaps you long to reconnect with the people and activities that once mattered to you, but instead feel stuck or overwhelmed. As a Chartered and HCPC-registered psychologist, I specialise in helping people release the impact of trauma and distressing events, so they can begin to feel safer, lighter, and more in touch with themselves again.

Mental health difficulties can leave us feeling rejected, isolated and alone. This is a hard cycle to break, because we tend to manage our problems in ways that leave us feeling even worse. This is all part of being human. It affects our relationships, our sense of self and our ability to function on a day-to-day basis. It is at times like this that we need support. Someone who can help us to view our problems through a different lens and can help us develop the tools we need to break the cycle. Many people find that therapy is the key to managing their difficulties whilst leading more meaningful lives.

At times of feeling low or anxious we often think, “what’s the point of trying it won’t make any difference”, leading to feelings of depression, sadness, fear and tearfulness. This then leads to changes in our behaviour such as withdrawing from others or staying in bed as we mull things over in our heads which makes us feel worse. Additionally, past trauma issues can often leave us feeling overwhelmed or with experiences of flashbacks and nightmares. Relationship issues left unresolved often leave us with a sense of helplessness and relationship breakdown leave us feel confused. Does this sound familiar to you?

People are impacted in different ways when they have experienced trauma in their life such as a single incident like a car accident or repeated incidents such as childhood abuse, bullying or domestic violence as an adult. You might always feel on edge, constantly scanning for danger; re-experience past memories as if they are happening now with intense distress; or find difficulty sleeping due to nightmares. For others, their traumatic experiences may leave them in a place where they find it difficult to trust others, or constantly put themselves last.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
