Is your self esteem or confidence low?
Unsure if counselling is right for you? Perhaps you have never had counselling before and are unsure what to expect. Perhaps you are familiar with therapy but would like to explore working with a new counsellor. Maybe you have thought about counselling before but each time you say to yourself that you will wait and eventually things will be different.

If you feel things deeply, overthink constantly, or often second guess yourself, it can be hard to feel settled in who you are. Maybe you’re your own worst critic, always pushing yourself to do better, to be more, or to keep things together for others. I work with people who feel emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in self doubt, or disconnected from their own worth. Therapy can offer a space to understand what’s going on underneath and start building a more compassionate, steady relationship with yourself.

I'm a therapist with a background in mental health nursing, offering a safe, supportive space where you can begin to make sense of your story. I have a particular interest in childhood trauma and how early experiences shape the way we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. Often, the strategies we develop to survive difficult beginnings, while once protective, can become patterns that cause pain in our present lives and relationships. I work with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress and burnout, grief and loss, trauma, family difficulties, and narcissistic abuse.

My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed by anxiety, grief, low self-worth, or uncertainty about their life’s direction. They are seeking a compassionate space to explore their emotions, gain clarity, and heal past wounds. They desire a deeper understanding of themselves and are ready to make meaningful changes. Their goal is to find peace, self-acceptance, and purpose, while developing stronger connections to themselves and others. Ultimately, they want to live more authentically, grounded, and with a sense of direction and inner stability.

I am happy to work with any presenting issue, and my particular areas of interest are loss (in all its forms), low self esteem and shame.
Effective counselling is based on a good relationship and it’s not easy to get an idea of what a counsellor will be like just by reading an online profile, so please feel free to get in touch with me to see if you think we would work well together. Send me an email or text to arrange a free, informal chat over the phone with no obligation.

Whether it's past trauma, difficult relationships or low self esteem that's causing you difficulties, I can help to process and understand what's going on for you.
Our stories are personal and complex and can cause a lot of pain. You may feel you need to understand and heal parts of yourself (your inner child for example) to move forward in a more positive way. You may be in a relationship that's failing and need help to communicate and understand each other in more depth. I can help with all of these issues.

Are you fed up or despairing to find yourself in the same old cycle of addictive or compulsive behaviour yet again? I help people who are stuck in these patterns to feel hopeful, optimistic and confident about regaining control of their lives. Addictions and compulsive behaviours can begin as our way of coping. Whether that is alcohol, drugs and gambling or shopping, over-eating and pornography ........or any other repetitive behaviour - they seem to ‘steal our lives’ and still leave us with our original problem. Perhaps we don't even know why our compulsive behaviour started - we only know that we need to make a change.

Hello I'm Clara and thank you for visiting my page. Talking to someone about issues you may be facing can often be difficult, so well done for making that first step. Searching for a counsellor can also prove difficult and it is important to find the right one for you. I believe the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship between you and your counsellor. There are many approaches to counselling and as an Integrative Counsellor I work with several theoretical approaches such as Person Centred, Gestalt, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Transactional Analysis. I also offer creative ways of working.

It can be a very daunting experience trying to find a counsellor. You may have several questions and possibly not be sure if counselling is for you. Talking to a professional can help. My name is Inge, I am a qualified counsellor and I offer an empathetic space for you to explore what is causing you distress, so you can move through your counselling journey at a pace that is comfortable for you. I adopt a person led approach whereby I work with you by continually discussing how the direction your counselling journey is progressing and if it is having the desired effect you had hoped for.

I would say my expertise lies mostly with anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues. I work with the clients goals in mind, at their own pace and ability. No two clients are the same and adjust my skills accordingly. You may be feeling a bit lost, stuck, overwhelmed, or have been going through a difficult stage in life. Perhaps past events, relationship difficulties have been affecting your self-esteem or causing low mood and anxiety. Whatever it is that you might have been working through, it can help to get professional support and be heard, acknowledged, and have someone navigate through it safely and mindfully with you.

Self Esteem Counsellors

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
