I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important ingredient for successful therapy. Together we can explore your situation from various perspectives allowing us to make sense of it and develop some solutions. I have 30 years experience of working in the NHS working with a diverse range of problems, most of this has been within Adult mental health, substance misuse and family therapy teams. I have a particular interest in trauma, from complex childhood and relational trauma to one off incidents or accidents or life change and transitional traumas.

people with anxiety (GAD, panic disorder/attacks, agoraphobia, health anxiety), depression, OCD and from March PTSD.
Pluralistic counsellors work from the belief that each client is unique and that therapy should be collaborative. CBT is a collaborative, action orientated approach which primarily aims to improve the here and now. I also regularly and creatively adapt my therapeutic approach and environment to meet the needs of neurodivergent clients.

Life can feel overwhelming when past experiences continue to shape how you think, feel, and respond. You may be living with anxiety, low mood, self-doubt or a sense of feeling stuck. I understand the deep and lasting impact trauma and adversity can have on both the mind and body. Left unprocessed, these experiences can shape how you see yourself, others, and the world — often through a lens of fear, shame, or self-protection. I offer a supportive space where we can untangle these patterns, so you're no longer viewing life through a trauma lens. I will help you reclaim your strength, clarity, and sense of direction.

While it is good to talk, it is even better to be heard, feeling that you have a safe place to explore the worries and concerns which we all experience from time to time. Counselling can offer a release from these restoring a sense of harmony and well being. Teenagers really benefit from counselling too. They don't come with their own handbook and are under such pressure these days. Bullying, anxiety, anger, low self esteem, various forms of self harming, and social media are among a variety of issues parents can find themselves dealing with.

You’re always “switched on” – spinning plates, meeting deadlines, supporting everyone else. (Blue Light Card holder? 50% off first 4 sessions) You’re the one people turn to. But lately, you’ve felt worn out but also wired, anxious beneath the surface. You keep showing up, but it’s getting harder to feel present. "How can nobody else see this?" Even when things look fine from the outside, you feel like you’re slowly unravelling. You wonder when it became normal to ignore your own needs just to get through the week. Even taking some time off doesn't help, the problem's still there when I get back. "Who's there for me?"

Hello, I’m Victoria, I’m a warm, down-to-earth counsellor offering online and telephone therapy to individuals. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can explore what’s going on beneath the surface and begin to reconnect with yourself. You might be holding it all together on the outside — but inside, you feel anxious, overwhelming, or just low. Maybe you’re tired of overthinking, people-pleasing, or feeling like your needs don’t matter. Maybe its unprocessed trauma or grief that weighs heavy on your heart and mind or maybe life just feels tough, and you’re not sure why.

I’m a counselling therapist offering face to face, online and telephone sessions for adults living with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma, offering a place where you can simply talk things through, whatever’s on your mind, in a space that’s calm, safe, and without pressure.
I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, unsure & worn down by life. I’ve been there too. If you’re reading this, maybe you're carrying a silent weight every day, holding yourself together on the outside while inside it feels like you're falling apart. Maybe your anxiety feels like your mind is stuck in overdrive, constantly spinning, replaying conversations, imagining worst-case scenarios, or feeling like something’s wrong even when you can’t explain why. It’s like having a dozen radio stations playing at once, and you can’t switch any of them off. You may feel stuck, unsure or uncertain or not know who you are anymore.

When we meet, I will bring to our relationship my experience and expertise in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and loss.
I have trained as an integrative counsellor, and believe that therapy can help us evolve from surviving to thriving. I became a counsellor for many reasons, but fundamentally because of the powerful way in which counselling can help you take back control of your life story; tomorrow does not have to be like yesterday. I can offer you a calm space to explore what feels safe to you until you are ready and I will not make assumptions about the individual struggles you are going through. I work with the full belief that it is possible to find a way through your experiences and re-gain that sense of who you are.

All clients are different. I look to adapt to everyone I meet and am an open person who someone can talk through their issues with. Looking at who you are, how your world is structured and the ifs, wants and needs are all very important in looking to move forward in your life. There is no perfect life, but there is a better life you can understand and work with in going forward.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
