I understand that contemplating counselling can be a daunting experience, but I want to reassure you that I can offer a confidential and non-judgemental space for you to be listened to. Each session is led by you and at a pace that feels comfortable. I firmly believe the therapeutic relationship is a collaborative one, and we can work together to explore your feelings and emotions within a safe and supportive setting, and take the first steps towards healing and growth. I previously worked as a teacher, so I am fully aware of how stress and anxiety can have a fundamental impact on securing a manageable work-life balance.

Hi, I'm Ajay. You’ll find a safe, confidential and friendly space where we can explore whatever is causing you unhappiness or distress. I listen without judgement and always treat you with respect. I don't do long words or cardigans. Together we’ll notice what’s working, explore new possibilities, and develop practical ways forward — because you are the expert on your own life. Therapy can bring tears at times, but there is often laughter too. I offer a compassionate approach, where we work together to explore what feels right for you and to find the best way forward.

I offer a safe, caring and supportive space where, working at a pace set by you and using a variety of tools and approaches that reflect you as a unique individual, I will work along side you in exploring and understanding the difficulties that may have brought you to seek therapy and helping you towards any changes you would like to make. I believe that you are the expert on you and so our sessions are guided by what you bring to each meeting, I will give you time to be heard, perhaps making observations and reflections or sharing tools or techniques that I feel may bring understanding or support you in moving forward.

Hi, I’m Lily. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. We may find ourselves anxious, stuck, or repeating patterns that hold us back from living fully. I can offer a safe and supportive space to pause, reflect, and begin to understand ourselves more deeply. I can help you explore these difficulties, make sense of them, and discover new ways of relating to yourself and others. Together, we can talk about your past and present experiences, and help you make sense of how they affect your everyday life

Perhaps you’re carrying too much. Tired of being the strong one. You might be holding in emotions you barely have names for shame, overwhelm, anxiety, grief or you’ve become so used to survival mode that calm feels unsettling. You want more than just coping. You want to feel connected to your body, to others, to life. Maybe you’re drawn to therapy, but only if it feels safe, grounded, and genuinely human. The kind of space where you’re met as a whole person, with many parts and layered experiences. That’s where we begin with presence, care, and the courage to feel.

Realising you're autistic or have ADHD, especially as an adult, can be challenging and liberating, but there's often a lot to process - things to look back on and interpret through your new lens, new knowledge to integrate and apply for a happier future, as well as thinking about how things are working for you in the present. I can help you through this process, using a mix of counselling, coaching, psycho-education, and my own lived experience of going through the same process. Neurodivergent people often have issues finding a therapist who really "gets" them. Who better than another neurodivergent person?

Hi, my name is Liz. Welcome to my profile. I work with clients to help them really understand why they are thinking, feeling and behaving in the way they are. Past and present events and experiences influence how we feel about and therefore treat ourselves which then impacts on all relationships in our lives. By understanding where these thoughts come from and why you may have such huge emotional and physical reactions or equally such suppressed feelings you can change the way you behave towards yourself and others. I would like to help you make the changes you need so that you can lead a healthy, happy and fulfilling life

You are probably feeling very upset, alone and confused, maybe even ashamed and wondering if counselling could help? Everyone who comes to therapy has a unique set of issues but the underlying need to share the distress and be understood, is true for everyone. If you are struggling with parenting, postnatal depression, miscarriage or your identity during a life transition, you are not alone. I have lots of experience working with women (and men) who are struggling with life and want to feel better than they currently do. I also help younger people and teens who may have self esteem issues, feel sad, anxious or be self harming.

We are each of us unique in how we deal with the trials and challenges that life can throw at us. Losing loved ones or relationships can often seem unbearable and sometimes finding the energy to simply keep going can seem overwhelming and exhausting. Do you find yourself going through the motions? Are you constantly putting on the brave face? While doing the basics gets harder, your world gets smaller and the anxieties, self doubts and uncertainties build?

This may be just one method or a combination of therapies. You will be in control of this and it can be changed as we progress, I offer this in a safe, confidential and non judgemental environment. Many of my clients choose to split sessions into 1/2hr Counselling and 1/2hr Hypnotherapy.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
