I'm of dual nationality and work in a BAME and LGBTQIA+ affirmative way.
The modality that I use is person-centred and experiential however I draw from a broad range of theoretical perspectives to work in an integrative way. I work in a sex and body positive way, this includes working with those who work in the sex industry. The majority of my working life has been working with individuals who have experienced personal and vicarious trauma or those who live or work in a chaotic and traumatic environment. When working with dissociative identity disorder as a presentation double length sessions (100 minutes) are available. SCID-D assessments, diagnosis and treatments plans offered.

Although each person’s situation is unique, some of the many issues I work with include: bereavement and other losses; exploring gender, sex and relationship diversity, and offering an affirming approach to LGBTQ+ clients; chronic illness and disability; relationship issues; the impact of the pandemic and COVID-19.
Are you feeling anxious or struggling? This could be through a bereavement, or difficulties in a relationship. Perhaps health issues such as chronic illness, disability or menopause have affected how you are feeling. Maybe work is causing you stress, or you have been made redundant. Do you feel misunderstood or not heard? Maybe you don’t have somewhere you feel supported to be yourself and to speak freely. Perhaps you feel like you don't have anyone to talk to who understands. You may need a place to be heard and to explore your feelings.

I also specialise in LGBTQ+ counselling, working affirmatively to support the unique challenges found in community and identity.
Often, those in pain may come to counselling in complex mental binds. These challenging emotions may present outwardly as forms of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and so on. I offer a space where we can explore the pain and challenges you're facing with compassionate curiosity.  We may at times pause to examine what is brought to the space, by thinking about the more abstract and emotional undercurrents, in order to collaboratively come closer to an understanding regarding what your pain is made of. I provide a space free of judgment and shame, and a willingness to walk alongside your emotional world.

I specialize in working with the LGBT+, fandom, kink, poly, neurodiverse/autistic, and spiritual communities but welcome all clients to reach out!
Hello! I am an Integrative Therapist that can help clients build strong boundaries, root out unhealthy patterns, and develop healthier relationships. Our work together is to understand deep rooted patterns that have kept you stuck in place. Through talk therapy we bring up the issue, giving space for things to be discussed. Through narrative work, we look at the narratives you have lived with and how to edit those to better serve you. A session with me is part talking about the present issue, while seeking out patterns and following the trail back to the root.

Maybe you identify as LGBTQ+ and/or neurodiverse and want to explore what that means for you or talk through trauma-related experiences.
Trauma can leave you feeling isolated and disconnected from your true self. Would you like to find someone who can help you understand and process the trauma you have experienced, to help heal and become the person you want to be?

LGBTQ+ Counsellors

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
