I am not the expert in your life, you are, but we can both bring our knowledges and expertise into the
relationship
to make a difference.
What informs my practice is a concern for respecting and valuing difference and the importance of caring communication in all relationships. We work together to bring about your own awareness of what needs to change in order move on in your life. Sometimes we are overwhelmed at what is happening to us, or we feel we have no control over our own lives. We can explore new ways of understanding ourselves and our relationships so that we can influence or even change our future.

I am a qualified Therapist with over 6 years of experience working within the substance misuse & mental health sector. The key to my work with clients is the belief that, through a psychotherapeutic
relationship
, we can gain insights into our patterns of behaviour. Working relationally, we can explore the possibility of change and begin to think of alternative positions that can move towards a more compassionate, and fulfilled version of ourselves. As I am currently in full training as a Transactional Analyst, I'm offering a reduced rate to clients seeking Psychotherapy.

When we meet, I will bring to our
relationship
my experience and expertise in working with trauma, anxiety, depression,
relationship
issues and loss.
I have trained as an integrative counsellor, and believe that therapy can help us evolve from surviving to thriving. I became a counsellor for many reasons, but fundamentally because of the powerful way in which counselling can help you take back control of your life story; tomorrow does not have to be like yesterday. I can offer you a calm space to explore what feels safe to you until you are ready and I will not make assumptions about the individual struggles you are going through. I work with the full belief that it is possible to find a way through your experiences and re-gain that sense of who you are.

For me, the therapeutic
relationship
is the foundation on which good therapy is built and experience has shown me that people who get the best results from therapy are highly motivated, brave, open, and willing to work together in a focused but flexible way.
Psychological support is about investing in you. Life can be chaotic, intense, confusing, and we can be left feeling disconnected from ourselves, our lives, and the people around us. Sometimes we just need some space to stop and think. Psychological support is also about developing a deeper understanding of yourself - who you are, what you need, what matters to you. For others, it's about building on existing skills - how to get more out of relationships, improving communication, being more assertive, boosting your sleep and performance, learning to be the best version of yourself.

I work relationally, which means co-creating a therapeutic
relationship
as a strong foundation we can work from so you feel safe while we look at what may be troubling you.
What if there was a place where you could be yourself? Where you could bring whatever it is that is troubling you, no matter how big or small you may think it is, and share it with someone safe, who won't judge you? What would it be like to have someone listen, really listen to you, strive to understand what it's like for you, and work together with you to find a way forward? I began Peridot Counselling to create a space like this where you can feel safe, welcomed, accepted, valued and truly heard. There are not enough spaces in the world for this, and they are important! You matter.

My aim is to build a strong therapeutic
relationship
with my clients based on empathy, trust and non-judgment.
I have helped clients with mild mental health issues such as general stress to higher needs such as schizophrenia and personality disorders. I would say my expertise lies mostly with anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues. I work with the clients goals in mind, at their own pace and ability. No two clients are the same and adjust my skills accordingly. Whether you’re looking for small changes in perspective, understanding or attitude, or you want a deeper more meaningful change in thinking, behaviour and habits I am willing to walk that journey with you.

At times of feeling low or anxious we often think, “what’s the point of trying it won’t make any difference”, leading to feelings of depression, sadness, fear and tearfulness. This then leads to changes in our behaviour such as withdrawing from others or staying in bed as we mull things over in our heads which makes us feel worse. Additionally, past trauma issues can often leave us feeling overwhelmed or with experiences of flashbacks and nightmares.

My expertise lies in areas such as stress management, emotional regulation, youth development, and
relationship
dynamics.
We encounter various kinds of difficulties and challenges every day. At times, it can be challenging to open up to others, therefore leading to feelings of confusion and a sense of powerlessness. Recently, many individuals from Hong Kong who have relocated to the UK have faced setbacks in their social, professional, or academic pursuits. Such challenges often stem from uncertainties surrounding self-image and self-worth while adapting to a new environment. If you find yourself in a similar situation, exploring yourself through psychological counseling can provide a more effective means of understanding and addressing these emotions.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
