I have helped clients with mild mental health issues such as general stress to higher needs such as schizophrenia and personality disorders. I would say my expertise lies mostly with anxiety , depression and self-esteem issues. I work with the clients goals in mind, at their own pace and ability. No two clients are the same and adjust my skills accordingly. Whether you’re looking for small changes in perspective, understanding or attitude, or you want a deeper more meaningful change in thinking, behaviour and habits I am willing to walk that journey with you.

I'm a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist and sleep specialist providing evidence-based psychological interventions (including CBT) for a range of difficulties including insomnia, adult ADHD, anxiety , work-related stress and burnout, trauma, depression, OCD, health anxiety , phobia , self-esteem issues and relationship difficulties.
Psychological support is about investing in you. Life can be chaotic, intense, confusing, and we can be left feeling disconnected from ourselves, our lives, and the people around us. Sometimes we just need some space to stop and think. Psychological support is also about developing a deeper understanding of yourself - who you are, what you need, what matters to you. For others, it's about building on existing skills - how to get more out of relationships, improving communication, being more assertive, boosting your sleep and performance, learning to be the best version of yourself.

I specialise in issues such as anxiety and depression.
Hello! My name is Dawid. I am a CBT counsellor. My photo was taken in Cornwall. As you can see I enjoy being in nature (look at that smile). I can walk on cliffs for miles, this really relaxes me. I want you to feel the same and support your wellbeing. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy where we work together to recognise and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviours which may be causing you difficulties. We would set achievable goals for future sessions and the final destination of where you would like to be. CBT is short-term. Once you learn some new useful skills you become then your own therapist!

I practice person-centred and emotion-focused therapy and have experience of working with sudden bereavement, anxiety , depression, self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, trauma, and health-related emotional distress, with adults across the age range. Emotion-focused therapy can help to focus on feelings which overtake our lives, making us lose sight of what we want, or keeping us stuck in situations we would like to change. Through gentle exploration of our emotions in a safe environment, we may start to see clearly how our feelings determine our actions, how we can make sense of our emotions, and how we can manage them for peace of mind

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
