Stressed out? Burnt out? Overwhelmed? Perhaps you feel like you’re only just coping, and would like to develop more resilience to help you manage all the things you have in your life? You are welcome, whatever the reason that brings you here. I am particularly interested in working with people who are affected by birth and adoption, issues around race and ethnicity, LGBTQIA+, climate anxiety, relationships and issues of belonging. If you're interested in exploring your deep patterns and motivations in a relational way, and are ready to have a go, then working with me may be just what you need.

I am a qualified Therapist with over 7 years of experience working within the substance misuse & mental health sector. The key to my work with clients is the belief that, through a psychotherapeutic relationship, we can gain insights into our patterns of behaviour. Working relationally, we can explore the possibility of change and begin to think of alternative positions that can move towards a more compassionate, and fulfilled version of ourselves. My main modalities of working with my clients is through addressing the unmet needs of our life experiences in early years, exploring the relational needs that may be left unattended too.

Finding the right therapist can be a daunting and overwhelming task, but you've already taken that first step. My own experiences of life's challenges (and there have been a few) allow me to provide a safe, considered and bespoke approach in supporting you to find your own way to a greater understanding of your feelings and current or past situations. As a Mind counsellor I have been privileged to work with a broad spectrum of clients, including low self esteem, anxiety, bereavement and loss, relationship issues, coercive control, identity. Whatever you choose to bring, I will always offer a safe, supportive non-judgemental space.

I am an Integrative Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor working with children, young people and adults over the long and short term I bring together aspects of the three main branches of counselling theory – Humanistic, Psychodynamics and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, integrating them into an approach that is flexible and tailored to meet your specific needs. I consider the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the counselling work as it is through the relationship with others that we create meaning and our view of self-worth.

Hello I am a qualified counsellor specialising in pluralistic practice. The pluralistic theory is an integrated approach meaning I am comfortable working in different types of therapy, such as person centred, CBT, and solution focused. The pluralistic approach believes that as human’s we are all unique, and therefore therapy should be tailored towards a client’s specific goals and needs, taking their individual experiences and preferences into account. I am passionate about this approach and believe therapy should be a collaborative effort where the client and counsellor work together towards achieving a shared aim.

I have helped clients with mild mental health issues such as general stress to higher needs such as schizophrenia and personality disorders. I would say my expertise lies mostly with anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues. I work with the clients goals in mind, at their own pace and ability. No two clients are the same and adjust my skills accordingly. Whether you’re looking for small changes in perspective, understanding or attitude, or you want a deeper more meaningful change in thinking, behaviour and habits I am willing to walk that journey with you.

Although older than many, I bring decades of life experience to my counselling. I have experienced most 'rites of passage' and find that my experience enables me to work sympathetically and non-judgmentally with my clients: there's nothing you can tell me that will shock me! We will work together in a welcoming, confidential environment to enable you to better understand your experiences, needs and the options open to you. With my support, you will be able to share your difficulties, worries and fears, developing a greater understanding of yourself, your situation and those long-standing difficulties that you struggle with.

It can feel overwhelming to contact a therapist and consider that you may need support, however, it is never too late to ask for help as it shows a sign of strength in a person and a readiness for change. I am offering both long-term and short-term therapy where we can engage in insightful ways to explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviours. My aim is to build a trusting and non-judgmental relationship that helps you to develop self-awareness to work through and reflect on any issues you might be experiencing.

Hi, I’m Aminah Teague. I'm a counsellor that helps anxious people understand and work with themselves. Perhaps you’ve felt anxious all your life and have realized this doesn’t have to be your normal. Maybe this is new for you…it’s come out of nowhere or crept up after something’s happened. You don’t have to avoid it anymore.

I have trained as an integrative counsellor, and believe that therapy can help us evolve from surviving to thriving. I became a counsellor for many reasons, but fundamentally because of the powerful way in which counselling can help you take back control of your life story; tomorrow does not have to be like yesterday. I can offer you a calm space to explore what feels safe to you until you are ready and I will not make assumptions about the individual struggles you are going through. I work with the full belief that it is possible to find a way through your experiences and re-gain that sense of who you are.

Hello I am a professionally qualified BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over 20 years of counselling experience. I draw from CBT, humanistic approaches and solution focused therapy. I offer a space where there is respect, warm understanding and sensitive encouragement to explore problems and to develop new ways of coping. Our first session would be an opportunity to look at what issues are concerning you and to see how we can work together. If you then decide you would like to continue, we can arrange to meet again.

Do you fear the worst things you say to yourself are true? Holding it together on the outside might feel like hanging on by your fingernails inside. You may be crushed by external circumstances or overwhelmed by internal turmoil. Perhaps you’re driven to overachieve at great personal cost, yet never seem to reach your potential in relationships, creativity or career. Familiar ways of coping no longer work, whether that’s immersive daydreaming, masking undiagnosed ADHD, or endless people-pleasing. It's hard to express what you want or need to live an authentic, fulfilled life. You simply cannot - you choose not to - go on like this.

My belief is that to be truly listened to and heard is a fundamental need within us. Life can often be difficult and complex, leaving us confused, broken, lost and hopeless. We can also lose sense of who we are and what we want. Sharing pain and suffering can be healing in itself. I am passionate about creating a strong therapeutic relationship that is judgement free, genuine, warm and empathic. I create a safe and confidential space where we can explore your thoughts and feelings, working together to gain clarity, understanding and insight on whatever you wish to bring to the session.

I can offer individuals and couples a safe space to explore whatever it is that's troubling you. My way of working includes looking at what your anxieties, behaviours and values mean to you and the role they play in your life. Together we can identify the root causes of your struggles, along with where your personal responsibility and power lies.

I practice person-centred and emotion-focused therapy and have experience of working with sudden bereavement, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, trauma, and health-related emotional distress, with adults across the age range. Emotion-focused therapy can help to focus on feelings which overtake our lives, making us lose sight of what we want, or keeping us stuck in situations we would like to change. Through gentle exploration of our emotions in a safe environment, we may start to see clearly how our feelings determine our actions, how we can make sense of our emotions, and how we can manage them for peace of mind

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
