You might feel worn down from trying to keep up, unsure why life feels harder than it should. If you’re ADHD or neurodivergent, whether diagnosed or questioning it, your mind might not switch off, you may feel overstimulated or foggy, or find yourself replaying conversations long after they’ve happened. At times, this can feel more noticeable during hormonal changes or life transitions. Over time, this can lead to burnout, self-doubt, or a feeling of being misunderstood. You might find yourself masking, over-explaining, or questioning who you are, while wanting a calm space to understand yourself, not be fixed, at your own pace.

My aim for setting up a therapy practice was to provide help to those who are struggling with life's challenges. Do you feel as though something in your life isn't right? Maybe you've found yourself at a crossroads, unsure of where to go next. You might want support with reaching a decision, or facing your past. You might be looking to address relational/behavioural patterns, or want someone to help you cope through a crisis. It might be none of those things. It could be difficult to explain, and others don't seem to understand:- all you know is that you don't want to feel like it anymore, and you want things to be different.

If you've ever felt like therapy has never quite felt like it was meant for you, I'd like to gently challenge that. I specialise in supporting new parents and neurodivergent people, including those with ADHD and autism, and am a fully qualified LGBTQ+ and GSRD affirming therapist, welcoming people from all walks of life. Therapy asks something of you, honesty, commitment and a willingness to sit with uncomfortable feelings, but you won't be doing that alone. I'll be right beside you throughout.

I began training to become a counsellor after I had personal experience of therapy and how it can help. Whether you are going through a traumatic time or life changing event or finding everyday life overwhelming, counselling can help. I believe that we all have the right to thrive and that spending time understanding your feelings can give you the power to change and make tomorrow better. I can offer you a calm and safe space away from the noise of life where you are free to be who you really are, explore the struggles you are going through and find a new way forward.

I work with adults facing anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma, life transitions, relationship difficulties, identity issues, self-esteem challenges, and feeling “stuck” or overwhelmed. Many clients are professionals, parents, helping professionals, or men who find emotional expression difficult. They often come seeking clarity, relief, understanding, or meaningful change. Through a warm, collaborative and tailored approach, I help clients explore what is happening beneath the surface and develop healthier, more sustainable ways of coping and moving forward.

Do you fear the worst things you say to yourself are true? Holding it together on the outside might feel like hanging on by your fingernails inside. You may be crushed by external circumstances or overwhelmed by internal turmoil. Perhaps you’re driven to overachieve at great personal cost, yet never seem to reach your potential in relationships, creativity or career. Familiar ways of coping no longer work, whether that’s immersive daydreaming, masking undiagnosed ADHD, or endless people-pleasing. It's hard to express what you want or need to live an authentic, fulfilled life. You simply can't - you choose not to - go on like this.

Hi, I’m Judith. I support adults who are struggling with emotional pain rooted in difficult childhood experiences, including growing up feeling unseen, misunderstood, or unsupported. You may find yourself battling guilt, shame, anxiety, low self-esteem, or a persistent feeling of not being “good enough.” Together, we can begin to make sense of these experiences and explore how they may still be affecting your life today.

I help and welcome a wide variety of clients, and have a particular interest in and understanding of the creative industries and education sector, ASD and life transitions. I regularly assist people challenged by anxiety, depression, and victims of crime including traumatic events. My counselling approach is integrative: a person-centred (humanistic) core to my work, but also drawing upon psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural theories and methods. I use creative ideas within my practice so that our work may include activities beyond talking and listening, enabling a more flexible and holistic approach to counselling therapy.

That's it! You've had enough of feeling this way and being misunderstood as an Autistic or ADHD person Regular therapy hasn't worked and you are now seeking something which accommodates your unique needs. You may be struggling with your sense of self and feel your identity is fractured. Causing stress, depression or low mood. Maybe you have experienced trauma or bullying, racism or are stuck in a cycle of burnout. There are many reasons a neurodivergent person may come to therapy and it's not always BECAUSE of neurodivergence but life itself. You need a therapists who gets the WHOLE of you - I hope that therapist is me.

I offer counselling for adults, often men, experiencing the impact of unresolved trauma. This may relate to difficult childhood experiences, abuse or neglect, bereavement or loss, military service, discrimination distress, life-altering events, or environments where emotional needs were not safely met. The people I work with have often spent years adapting to survive difficult experiences, disconnecting from and masking parts of themselves, struggling with emotional overwhelm, staying busy, being highly self-critical, or losing touch with what they need. Therapy can offer space to slow down and make sense of these patterns.

How can I find a therapist in Bassaleg?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
