Hi, my name is Emily, and thank you for taking the time to view my profile. Coming to therapy can feel like a really big step and may feel overwhelming, especially if you’re not sure where to start or have a number of things on your mind. For me as a therapist, it’s really important to create a safe and supportive space where you can feel comfortable and able to go at your own pace, with no pressure to open up before you’re ready. I work in an integrative way, using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including trauma-focused approaches where appropriate, alongside stabilisation, emotional regulation and grounding techniques.

Hi, I'm Jade. I work with people who find themselves at a point where life no longer feels familiar — often following a significant change, loss, or life transition. You may feel disconnected from who you are, unsure how you arrived here, or struggling to make sense of what you’re experiencing. You don’t need to have clear answers before starting therapy; sometimes simply knowing that something feels out of balance is enough. My approach is person-centred and holistic, meaning I place your experience at the centre of our work and move at a pace that feels right for you.

Life can feel overwhelming when past experiences continue to shape how you think, feel, and respond. You may be living with anxiety, low mood, self-doubt or a sense of feeling stuck. I understand the deep and lasting impact trauma and adversity can have on both the mind and body. Left unprocessed, these experiences can shape how you see yourself, others, and the world — often through a lens of fear, shame, or self-protection. I offer a supportive space where we can untangle these patterns, so you're no longer viewing life through a trauma lens. I will help you reclaim your strength, clarity, and sense of direction.

Although I counsel a wide range of issues, my specialist areas are sexual abuse/rape and working with teenagers.
While it is good to talk, it is even better to be heard, feeling that you have a safe place to explore the worries and concerns which we all experience from time to time. Counselling can offer a release from these restoring a sense of harmony and well being. Teenagers really benefit from counselling too. They don't come with their own handbook and are under such pressure these days. Bullying, anxiety, anger, low self esteem, various forms of self harming, and social media are among a variety of issues parents can find themselves dealing with.

At times we all find it hard to cope and need a little help to get back on track. I believe that therapy can help anyone to transform their life. I believe in the human potential for change and improvement and the importance of personal growth. Perhaps you're feeling trapped or blocked by the past, confused knowing there must be more to life but feeling stuck in survival. Maybe you feel in the depths of despair with feelings of stress, depression and anxiety or recently grieving from a bereavement or loss. You know changes need to be made and seeking a safe supportive space to find a greater balance and meaning to life.

I offer counselling for adults, often men, experiencing the impact of unresolved trauma. This may relate to difficult childhood experiences, abuse or neglect, bereavement or loss, military service, discrimination distress, life-altering events, or environments where emotional needs were not safely met. The people I work with have often spent years adapting to survive difficult experiences, disconnecting from and masking parts of themselves, struggling with emotional overwhelm, staying busy, being highly self-critical, or losing touch with what they need. Therapy can offer space to slow down and make sense of these patterns.

I specialise in working with adults and young people living with the effects of the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, rape, sexual assault, narcissistic and domestic abuse, and neurodivergence.
The psychotherapy I offer is Emotion-Focused. Working with the emotions arising from trauma can help you to start making sense of the effect that it is having on your life. As well as talking about how you've been affected emotionally I can work with you on strategies that can help to minimise the anxiety of dealing with life whilst feeling overwhelmed.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
