I know that it can be daunting reaching out for help and that many people never do reach out, perhaps because they are the strong ones who are supporting everyone else around them so their needs are at the bottom of the long list of things to do and people to look after. Please know that you are important too. And in helping yourself, you are also helping those around you. If you are feeling troubled, I'm here to listen without judgement and I can help and support you to work towards feeling better. Remember tomorrow is a bright new day and there is always hope.

Current crisis, Deeper issue, Self Care. Surprisingly quite often the thing that brings a person to seek support may be a way in to understanding deeper causes of unhappiness, anxiety or depression. Sometimes people live with a feeling of "something just not being quite right". Counselling can help develop Self-Awareness which in turn can be life changing! That’s the good news - but like most things in life it doesn’t happen without effort, and can be painful, but the results are definitely worth it! So be brave and you may look forward to personal growth and hopefully increased happiness. I look forward to hearing from you.

I understand approaching a counsellor for the first time can be daunting. From the outset I offer a safe, non-judgemental, confidential environment in which you can express your feelings and gain deeper insight into any difficulties you may be experiencing. If you are unsure, or you have any questions about engaging in counselling, we can have a brief talk prior to committing to sessions. I will aim to support you to feel at ease in taking this first step. I am BACP accredited and have 13 years experience working with adults with a wide range of presenting concerns.

I am very good at treating people with Anxiety, Depression, Personality Disorders, as well as those with traumatic experiences. I apply a very modern and effective type of dynamic psychotherapy called Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). I work on repressed feelings and emotions and help you to get rid of the pain and suffer to become a mature personality. For most people, psychological stress and unresolved traumas are so overwhelming that often leads to many other problems, such as low performance, low confidence, unpleasant encounters and a gradual destruction of well-being. If left untreated, these psychological issues can be transferred from one generation to the next, due to its lasting effects on children. Modern treatments in psychotherapy can help you overcome many types of psychological problems. People suffering from these problems can be helped to regain their sense of pride, efficiency, and effectiveness. My clients need to be well motivated, and cooperative.

Counselling is about investing time in yourself and people seek counselling for many different reasons. You may be experiencing unwanted thoughts and feelings that are having a negative impact on your life or have specific issues you wish to talk about that are affecting you. Sometimes we repeat old patterns of behaviour that affect our relationships and every day lives. I have particular experience in childhood trauma, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, addiction and stress at work. Please give me a call or message for a free phone consultation to discuss how I can help you.

I am an experienced and qualified psychotherapist working with individual adults. I work from an analytic perspective - our experience of the past, both conscious and unconscious influences our present. Feelings of depression, anxiety or a lack of direction or meaning in life need to be understood in this broader context. By looking at our whole life we can uncover who we really are and where we wish to go. I offer a safe space where troublesome, dark and difficult feelings can be examined and explored - by bringing them into the light we open up the possibility of facing and understanding them.

I am a complex trauma and PTSD specialist. Trauma impacts us physically, mentally, energetically and emotionally; depression and anxiety; anger; intrusive memories, flashbacks or nightmares; addictive or avoidant behaviours, stubborn negative beliefs and relationship difficulties. You might experience physical aches, pains for which the doctors can't find any cause or have had talking therapies previously that have left you feeling no better. Your symptoms may be leaving you feeling stuck, overwhelmed and feeling a million miles away from the person that you want to be.

Counselling can provide you with help and support if you are going through a difficult time. I understand that you may be feeling anxious, a lack of connection, have a sense of loss or just feel stuck. You may even feel disconcerted or ill at ease, and cannot understand why or who to turn to. Coming to counselling may feel daunting, but actually is a sign of strength, and is often the first brave step towards finding a stronger sense of self and inner peace.

Dealing with difficult emotions can feel overwhelming and scary. Are you feeling anxious or stressed, or feel like you are trapped in a situation that you see no way out from? Whether it's your relationships, feelings about yourself or the world around you, seeking counselling can be the first steps to empowering yourself to make positive changes in your life. With the world feeling so precarious right now, and our lives being turned upside down, it can feel like the control you once had has now been taken away. Traumatic, upsetting experiences can all lead to adverse mental health.

I view therapy as a collaborative enterprise between client and therapist, with the shared goal of gaining understanding and facilitating a process of acceptance or change. In recognising that we are all unique, each with our own beliefs, values and attitudes about ourselves, others, and the world, I believe that it is important to tailor therapy to the individual needs of my clients. I work with a range of psychological theories and approaches, including Existential-phenomenological therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement therapy, providing both short and longer-term therapy, where appropriate.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
