Speaking to people you know like family or friends can be useful for many problems. Sometimes though you might want help and support from a professional with whatever difficult thoughts and feelings you are experiencing at the time. My aim is to help you make sense of your difficult experiences, work with your thoughts and feelings, explore how you interact with others, examine how you can resource yourself and support you to make positive changes in your life. My approach is one of empathic listening and acceptance of the person for who they are without any form of judgement.

I offer a free 15 minute phone call before meeting. This gives you an opportunity to outline your current circumstances and enables me to consider if I might be able to help you. Your first session will be an assessment where I will ask questions to better understand your past, your present and your expectations. This session is a two-way process for both you and I to consider if we might be able to work together. Any ongoing therapy will last 50 minutes and would typically take place on a weekly basis. I can work in an open ended way or time limited if you would prefer a shorter period. We would then work in a more focussed way

I offer a balanced set of approaches that I can apply to suit your needs. Some people are better helped with insights into their patterns; others may need more skills and again others may feel they do everything right yet they are still unhappy. I strongly believe in trying out new behaviour, as this creates the biggest shifts and minimizes relapse. I integrate lifestyle factors such as nutrition when necessary. When the chemicals aren't right, talking isn't going to lift your mood. We will always explore the source of your issues, relating it to your system, so as to radically release and uproot it and make change more effortless.

Are you struggling to feel happy in yourself, and feel like everything you try to make yourself feel better isn’t working? Perhaps things you do may be causing distance between your friends and family yet you don’t know how to stop. Your work life, food and exercise routines may feel out of control, or that they’re running your life. All this can leave you feeling isolated, alone and grasping for unattainable goals. On the outside, things may look OK but inside you feel empty, with no sense of who you are and who you want to be.

Counselling is a talking therapy that provides you with the opportunity and space to explore your concerns, worries, fears and anxieties in a safe and confidential manner without being judged. Life brings about many storms. They may be emotional, physical, psychological, financial and spiritual. During such times, it can be hard trying to cope alone and as such, one may feel the need to talk it over with someone. Someone who is able to listen attentively with compassion, sensitivity so as to understand their distress. It is not my role to give you advice rather to enable you to talk and empower you to find your own solutions.

As a Humanist, I believe in your Actualising Tendency - your inborn capacity to heal and grow. How do you experience this innate resourcefulness in yourself? Has it become confused by social expectations, stifled by inner critics, or simply bypassed by survival-mode thinking? However remote it might seem to you now, your Actualising Tendency is always there, ready to resume its central guiding role in your life. If this rings true and you're looking for therapy that is guided by your own authentic curiosity, awareness, insight and creativity, we might be a good match.

Taking the first steps into therapy can feel challenging - particularly at a time when you might be struggling to make sense of difficult thoughts and feelings. It’s important to find a therapist who feels right for you and with whom you can build a trusting relationship. As a psychodynamic therapist I’m interested in how your past relationships and experiences have come to shape how you feel about yourself and others in your life. Through insight and empathy therapy can help you to face the emotional challenges in your life.

How can I find a therapist in W12?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
