If you have found your way to this page, there is every possibility that you are looking for help in some way. Life challenges us in unexpected ways and sometimes we might need more support to find our way through. You may be feeling a loss of meaning, or experiencing symptoms such as depression, anxiety, addiction or grief. Or you may be ready to continue with your own journey of self-awareness. I strongly believe that there is a wisdom and resilience in each person, but it can often be hidden. The therapeutic relationship is key to recovering our resources.I integrate Psychotherapy and body-centred approaches to healing.

I am a qualified psychotherapist and have been working in private practice since 1996. I offer a supportive, safe and confidential space where we can look together at what is troubling you. Throughout the years I have worked with many people of different ages, faiths and nationalities and with many different issues. I have found that ultimately it is the security and safety of the therapist/client relationship that is key to enabling healing and growth. My core stance as a therapist is humanistic and transpersonal which means that I look at the whole person; body, mind, feelings and spirit.

If you’ve been thinking about therapy it might be that you feel anxious a lot of the time, you may experience low mood, it might be a relationship issue that’s bothering you, at home or at work. There may be a change that’s causing some difficulty, a change of role or status, a relationship breakdown or loss. Or there may be something, that you can’t quite name, that seems to be getting in your way. I believe in your wellness and will always support your very best Self. The first session is free so you can get a sense of how it will be to work together.

Sometimes life can be overwhelming, and it can be helpful for us to reach out to a trained professional to journey with us through the choppy waters. At other times, we may just have an inner sense of being unsettled, flat or empty and be unsure as to why; or we may have more specific concerns, centring around work, health, parenting or relationships.

I am an EMDR Europe Accredited child and adolescent Practitioner working with children and young people affected by PTSD and complex PTSD. PTSD can develop after experiencing, witnessing or hearing about traumatic experiences. Most young people do not develop PTSD but for those who do, the symptoms can be severe, distressing and may affect ability to function in daily life. Symptoms can fluctuate and may include a re experiencing of the event eg in the form of nightmares, feeling ‘on edge’, with attempts to avoid reminders of the trauma and often a change in mood/thoughts.

A few of the issues I come into contact with regularly are: Relationship issues, Anger, Stress, Bereavement, Loss, Anxiety, Depression, Sexual, Physical and Emotional abuse, Identity, Sexuality, Addiction, Self-harm, suicidal thoughts, PTSD.
My name is Sharon. I understand that choosing to contact a therapist can be difficult. Making the first contact can be a daunting experience due to the number of therapies available, along with the uncertainty of which therapy will work best for you. As an integrative therapist, we will explore this together on our first consultation and agree on the best way forward for you, to ensure your psychological and emotional growth. Therapy will be created for your individual needs, with a clarity of what you can expect to achieve. The path you wish to take towards fulfilment will be with me being there with you every step of the way.

I've worked with a diverse range of clients for issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, self-harm, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, addiction, panic attacks, stress, bereavement and relationship problems.
We all have times when we feel lost, alone or misunderstood. We want things to change but we don’t know how. Unsure of what we want we may talk to family or friends, but all they do is offer opinions. Sometimes we have no one to talk to and remain trapped in isolation unsure of own truth. This is where counselling can help.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
