In my years of experience working as a Trauma Therapist. I worked within the NHS and treated trauma alongside PTSD responses to birth as a midwife and trauma therapist. Private practice includes working with life concerns such as depression, PTSD, dissociative conditions, and relationship stresses in any of life's circumstances. I am happy to work with almost any general life issue. Examples include GRI, sexual or other abuse, rape, and lifelong bullying are frequent concerns in therapy, and couple therapy is of particular interest. I use EMDR, Rewind, and Trauma-focused CBT in a person-centred approach and work with clients online

Sharing the impact of these distressing times can help with finding the resources to ease distress and consider which best next steps to take. I am fully accredited with both BABCP and BACP and my approach is largely, although not exclusively, cognitive behavioural. I have a particular Interest in anxiety and in trauma work and am trained in EMDR and Trauma- focussed CBT which are the two current gold standard NICE recommended evidence based treatments in this area.

I am an accredited integrative counsellor, IFS & Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Practitioner. I offer a confidential and understanding service for adults, children and young people who are facing a range of emotional difficulties. There are many reasons why an individual seeks counselling, and I understand that it can feel like a big decision where you may feel nervous, uncertain or vulnerable. My first step is to offer you a safe, non-judgemental space, where you feel able to explore your own thoughts and feelings. This offers you space to understand the underlying feelings that can make you feel low, stuck, empty or overwhelmed.

Have you been feeling anxious or depressed? Perhaps you have suffered a loss - a relationship, a bereavement, a job? Are events from the past still haunting you? Maybe you are not really sure why you are feeling so low? As an experienced counsellor, I can help you to explore your thoughts and feelings, manage your symptoms and decide what changes you want to make to your life. It is often difficult to talk to friends and family about our problems due to embarrassment or fear of being a burden. As a qualified counsellor, I have been trained to listen and support you through your darkest moments.

It can be a huge step to decide to talk to a counsellor/psychotherapist about personal issues so it is important to find someone you are comfortable with, who will not judge you but accept you for who you are. I offer office based and/or telephone therapy. The relationship between therapist and patient is fundamentally important. I liken psychotherapy to being in a clothing shop changing room where we get a unique view of ourselves from all angles.  Likewise therapy is about helping someone to glimpse  and explore hidden parts of themselves or just helping them make sense of their distress.

Whether it is feelings of anxiety, low mood, managing life transitions, or dealing with trauma, Strive2Thrive can help. Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
