In my years of experience working as a Trauma Therapist. I worked within the NHS and treated trauma alongside PTSD responses to birth as a midwife and trauma therapist. Private practice includes working with life concerns such as depression, PTSD, dissociative conditions, and relationship stresses in any of life's circumstances. I am happy to work with almost any general life issue. Examples include GRI, sexual or other abuse, rape, and lifelong bullying are frequent concerns in therapy, and couple therapy is of particular interest. I use EMDR, Rewind, and Trauma-focused CBT in a person-centred approach and work with clients online

I have a specialism in PTSD and can offer specific treatment for type 1 or type 2 trauma.
The ideal client is someone who is motivated and determined to reach their therapeutic goals despite the presentation that they live with. Every client is an expert in their world, and therefore it is always a privilege for them to allow me to explore their difficulties in order to reach solutions that will increase their quality of life

I have 13 years experience of working with clients that present with complex grief, acute stress, addictions, post-traumatic stress and clients who may or may not have a formal PTSD diagnosis.
Hello, I'm Sarah. I have 17yrs of experience within a variety of settings, NHS, Universities, FE colleges and workplace providers including specialised occupational groups-emergency services and armed forces. I believe that in therapy 'not one size fits all' and so I have made it my focus to continue to learn and develop my practice. My qualification and experience in the facilitation of reflexive supervision, both in groups and individual, can be of benefit to supervisees that request cross-professional supervisory support, and I offer timely group support in the aftermath of a critical incident.

With a background as a Principal Clinical Psychologist at the NHS trauma specialist service, I work with those impacted by trauma, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem and for those who are looking to make changes in their life, but aren’t sure where to start.
What if. Two words that send your mind down a well-worn path. Words and images that pop into your head at any moment and no matter how hard you try to push it away you find yourself stuck; thinking, feeling and doing the same thing over and over. Maybe it’s reliving the past, maybe it’s worrying about the future, or feeling you need to do something right now or something bad will happen. “What if” is hard to live with. But when your mind is stuck in the “what if’s” your brain is telling you there is something you need to figure out, something you need to rebalance.

Front Line Workers Specialism: Is the toll of your work grinding you down? Do you experience burnout? Has witnessing death and trauma impacted you in ways which are difficult to describe? Is there a sense of losing who you once were? Witnessing devastation, shift work, mistrust in management, lack of sleep, feeling undervalued, high workloads, poor work culture, relationship difficulties, dynamic stressful working environments and intrusive negative memories all contribute to an ever increasing proportion of emergency service workers suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, suicide ideation and suicide. So who helps the helper?

This life is filled with challenge, heartbreak, confusion, overwhelm and un-nameable wounds, but there is also profound potential for meaningful connection, clarity, and joy. Let’s work together to learn new ways of navigating life’s struggles and rediscover the magic of your existence. I am a trauma-responsive Relational therapist. As a Relational therapist, I understand that some of our most basic human needs are to belong, to be understood, to be valued and seen for who we are, and to be loved. When these needs are not met, we can experience a wide range of challenges in ourselves and in our relationships with others.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
