Addiction Specialist and consultant/Trauma Therapist.
Some of our coping strategies are life threatening, cause fear and shame and often mask underlining issues, while creating further distress. Treatment needs an informed understanding, education, support and gentle challenge. As a lead therapist in a prestigious rehab, I manage other counsellors and work with clients bringing a specialism of trauma into the treatment of addiction. This weaves through the work in my private practice. My training, studies and experience, both professionally and personally has taken me toward looking at addiction as a symptom of psychological trauma.
Trauma is often rooted in relationships, which means we benefit to experience trusting interactions to repair the original wound or to repair the destruction that may be caused by the addiction itself. My intent is to offer understanding, insight and a relationship in which you feel safe enough to begin exploring some of these things.
Some of the painful, seemingly involuntary behaviours that may be governed by the neurological process of addiction need help to be understood. It is through understanding of the process that we may begin to build in some compassion. I also have extensive experience and training working with eating disorders.
