What do you need to get your life on track, to feel fulfilled, relevant, in control and in the drivers seat? Sometimes we just need a bit of support to get there, an outside eye, a gentle challenge. We always need, and deserve to be treated with sensitivity, respect and dignity. Life is full of challenges, but you don't need to face them alone. Letting someone in can be scary, but you really do deserve to be supported, and you have every right to live a fulfilling, rich and creative life.

I love helping people to improve their lives. So many of us carry emotional burdens, anxieties and traumas that hold us back, inhibit our happiness and impact on our relationships, and yet there is much that can be done to relieve and even resolve this pain. Through my psychotherapy practice I have been able to help many people to live their lives more fully; helping people with self esteem, trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, resentment, and many other forms of emotional pain. I help people make important life decisions, find new directions and begin to realise their potential. I'd love to see how I can help you.

I work as an integrative therapist with a core foundational training in person-centred therapy. I provide a safe, confidential and trauma informed space to help explore what to do with this ‘one wild and precious life’. What can help with this is providing counselling in natural, outdoor settings. For this we can utilise the quiet and spacious grounds of Dartington Hall for ecotherapy. I believe that any healing is closely connected to nature. Being outdoors can help to feel less confined and more free to explore thoughts and process emotions.

Sometimes it can be difficult to say how we feel. Sometimes we may not know what we are feeling, let alone how to articulate this. Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art-making as its main mode of expression and communication; art is not used as a diagnostic tool but as a medium to explore and address confusing or distressing feelings and behaviours that may not be revealed using words alone. By awakening your creativity, Art Therapy can help you to connect with yourself in order to better understand your emotions and relationships within the world, leading to positive change.

There are lots of reasons why you might be seeking counselling. You may be anxious or scared. You might be feeling unhappy, perhaps life has lost some of its meaning. You may have lost the sense of who you really are, or feeling guilt and shame. Alternatively, you might be overwhelmed at present, with too many demands on your time and energy. Whether the world seems hostile, lonely or just not quite what you thought it would be, we can work together to make it better.

Welcome! I have been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist since 1998 and work as a supervisor too, with practices in Exeter and London and online. I believe that many of our difficulties develop due to our early life and past experiences, including trauma. We repeat patterns in our lives hoping that things will get resolved. Sometimes these patterns are unhelpful to us. Therapy offers, in a confidential and safe space, the possible facilitation of being able to recognise these patterns and approach them from a new perspective. (more detailed information can be found on www.psycho-dynamic.co.uk)

Hello :) I’m a neurodiverse, queer counsellor offering down to earth support to people feeling lost, alone, powerless, and unsure how to cope. Working together effectively cuts through the noise of everyday life, allowing you to hear yourself and your needs more clearly. My approach is integrative, drawing predominantly from person centred counselling (we are equal), Gestalt (working towards wholeness) and existential counselling (what is this life all about?). By creating and offering a curious and hopeful space, I hope to help you to listen and respond to your emotions with love, understanding and empowerment.

As an art psychotherapist, sessions are not reliant on verbal communication. It's often difficult to put into words how we are feeling and thinking. Through the creative and nurturing medium of art, I help you to engage with your senses and offer the opportunity to use materials to reconnect mind and body. Art materials help with discharging difficult feelings and exploring deep emotions. I aim to empower my clients to make positive steps in between sessions by providing creative strategies that can be use day to day. Although my training is in the creative arts, I also offer traditional talking therapy.

Are you struggling with a sense of meaninglessness, isolation and hopelessness, leading to feelings of fear and anxiety? Often we seek therapy when we start to become aware of being stuck in the same old patterns but have no idea of why or how to change things. Perhaps you are facing significicant challenges in your life - major life changes like divorce, redundancy, bereavement, illness or loss and you're stuggling to navigate your way through it? Or perhaps you are trying to cope with the effects of past trauma. Life has become unbearable and you're struggling to find a way forward. You want and need something to change?

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
