Hello. I support adults and young people (16+) with overwhelming anxiety. Anxiety can often be caused by damaging levels of stress, relationship issues, family conflict, bereavement, significant life changes, low self-esteem, feelings of being stuck, shame and anger. My work with young people additionally supports anxiety around exams, fear of failure, low motivation and relationships. Therapy is a collaborative approach. My approach helps you find the root causes of the disconnect in your life and enables change. We can't alter our past but we can change the influence it has on us.

You’ve already done the hard part by being here. Now let’s talk about what working with me really looks like. I am a relational, solution-focused therapist this means  I actively work with you to create meaningful change. Much of my work focuses on anxiety, LGBTQIA+, childhood trauma and attachment, and how those early experiences continue to shape your relationships, choices, and sense of self today.  Therapy with me isn’t about endless circling or sticking plasters. It’s about uncovering what’s really going on, making sense of it together, and building practical, lasting strategies so you can move forward with confidence.

I provide therapeutic services for individuals, young people, as well as couples. I offer a safe and confidential space online and in Tunbridge Wells to work on a short or long term basis depending on your need. If you haven't had counselling before, the thought of talking to a stranger about something that's troubling you can seem frightening. You may have an idea of the changes you want to make, or simply be aware that you want something in your life to be different without being sure how to achieve this. I am qualified to practise Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and can support you to initiate the changes you seek to make.

Thanks for visiting my page and I hope I can help you. My name is Sara and I'm an art therapist but I am experienced in many forms of therapy which is helpful as I can do what resonates best with you. I can provide a safe space where you can express your feelings and experiences, help you to understand yourself better and heal from old wounds. Art therapy can be a wonderful way for you to explore your emotions creatively. Sometimes, it’s easier to express what you’re going through via simple art processes rather than words. This form of therapy can help you process trauma, reduce stress, build resilience and a sense of wellbeing.

Human beings are thrown into the unpredictable world, carrying with them givens of family, culture and circumstance. Some of us are more protected and safe than others, but all of us spend time seeking a human connection that could help us heal and feel safe. Experiences we have been through can lead to loss of connectedness to yourself, others and the world. Genuine, honest and safe connections are essential for wellbeing and my aim in therapy is firstly to establish such a connection. Through this, the aim is to help you embrace what is hidden and difficult, change what is unwanted and move forward with self-compassion.

We all carry parts of our story that shape how we experience ourselves and others. Sometimes these patterns can leave us feeling stuck, anxious, or uncertain about who we are and what we need. Psychodynamic counselling offers a space to explore these deeper layers — to make sense of the past, understand its influence on the present, and open up new possibilities for growth and meaningful connections.

Sometimes things just don’t feel right. You might be struggling to work out who you are and what you want or finding it hard to cope with life’s challenges – feeling stressed, unfulfilled or stuck. Maybe you've been deeply affected by specific events and loss – perhaps the death of a loved one, relationship breakdown, redundancy or illness. Is what you're experiencing affecting your relationships and behaviour and bringing painful feelings, including anger, sadness, vulnerability, guilt and shame, sometimes leaving you anxious and depressed? I am committed to supporting clients wishing to address challenging personal issues.

We all face different struggles in our lives. You may be feeling low, anxious, angry or lonely and you don’t know why. You may be struggling with a difficult relationship at home or at work. Perhaps your struggle is a response to a change, difficult event or a loss in your life. Your struggle may be something you’ve been engaged in for as long as you can remember. I believe that when we can take the time to explore our experiences and feelings, with someone who can listen with genuine care and curiosity, we can emerge from our struggle to feel better ‘met’ in the world, to be able to engage in our lives more wholeheartedly.

There may be events which have occurred or are anticipated to occur which leave us feeling anxious, ill, overwhelmed, stressed, frightened, unsure, on the edge of burn out or like our very foundation has been shaken, and we need some help to process it all. Or we may not even know why we are feeling the way we do. Sometimes things can feel unmentionable to family and friends or events have occurred which no-one wants to talk about anymore or we need the skill, support and confidentiality of somebody who will understand what we are struggling with and who is equipped to help us. That’s when therapy can be really valuable.

I offer therapy for people who are carrying the weight of trauma, particularly complex relational trauma and sexual trauma. There are experiences that don't just live in the memory, but live in the body, in relationships, and in parts of you that feel 'too much' or 'not enough'. The way I work is gentle, but certainly not avoidant. Together, we can create a space that feels safe and trustworthy to really explore you as a person, and to find ways of empowering you to explore what feels more aligned to who you really are.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
