You’re used to "just getting on with it," but the pressure of keeping up appearances is starting to take its toll. Maybe you’re navigating a high-stakes career, a major life transition, or just a persistent feeling that you’re "masking" who you really are. You need a space where you don’t have to be the manager, the leader, or the one with all the answers. Your goal isn't just to "fix" a problem, but to understand why you feel stuck and how to regain a sense of genuine identity. You want a therapist who is grounded, direct, and understands the grit of real-world pressure without the clinical jargon.

Many of the couples and partners I work with feel like they’ve lost their way together. Arguments may repeat in familiar cycles, or silence has replaced communication. Some arrive in crisis — after betrayal or distance has grown — while others simply want to feel closer again but aren’t sure how. My clients often describe feeling unheard, unseen, or caught in patterns they can’t shift, no matter how hard they try. Beneath the surface conflict, there’s usually a longing to reconnect, to understand each other better, and to feel emotionally safe again. Some couples hope to rebuild and move forward together; others are unsure whether

Hello. I am a pluralistic psychotherapist based in Nine Elms. I work with clients experiencing—among other things—anxiety, depression, low self esteem, issues at work and relationship difficulties. Our sessions will be a safe space in which to explore and resolve problems, often very deep rooted ones.  At the heart of my work is the person-centred approach pioneered by Carl Rogers. I believe each of us can thrive, and wants to. As your psychotherapist I will encourage you to explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, assumptions about the world, expectations from others, personal story and inner life.

You might be anxious or depressed or hampered by repetitive and intrusive thoughts or feelings that prevent you enjoying life. You might be experiencing stress because of work or personal circumstances. You might have sexual problems or have lost the closeness and intimacy you once had with your partner. You might be worried about a dependency, addiction or a compulsive behaviour that has increasingly adverse consequences. You might feel lonely or isolated or be in conflict with family or friends. You might just have a specific problem that requires some thought or exploration. You might live in the shadow of unresolved trauma.

I work with people who have spent much of their lives showing up for others - thoughtful, capable, and deeply committed. You’re used to carrying responsibility, and now you may be ready to offer that same care to yourself. Many of my clients come to therapy not only because life feels challenging, but because they’re ready to grow, reconnect, and live more authentically. Are you re-evaluating relationships, work, or decisions? Or noticing old patterns, seeking healthier boundaries, feeling burnt out from work, caregiving, parenting, or life changes? I offer a calm, supportive space where you don’t have to figure it out alone.

It may be a particular concern or a general sense of confusion that you can’t put your finger on that is drawing you towards therapy. It is not an easy decision to make but just feeling heard and having the freedom to express yourself can be a relief from the outset. I have experience with a broad range of issues including family difficulties, issues related to motherhood, bereavement and narcissistic abuse among others.

Have you ever felt under pressure to live up to other people's expectations or conditions, losing yourself in the process? Would you value a space where you would have the opportunity to rediscover your sense of self and be the person you were truly meant to be?

Many of the people I work with describe feeling stuck in patterns that leave them drained, saying yes when they want to say no, overthinking every little thing or feeling like their mind never switches off. Sometimes it's the opposite, feeling paralysed by indecision, stuck in procrastination and avoidance. Often there can be a background noise of persistent self-doubt or maybe guilt. Therapy might offer an opportunity to understand what’s really going on, not just the symptoms but the patterns, pressures and histories driving them. Sometimes this can be about making changes in our ways of thinking, feeling and behaving.

Let it be anxiety, low mood, grief, trauma or another topic that you would like support with, I am here to listen and walk by your side on your journey. My goal as a therapist is to give clients a safe, empathic, warm and non-judgemental space so that we can speak freely and you can have the psychological support you need, may this be in a short-term therapy concept or longer term. One of my areas of interest is supporting parents, as parenthood can be challenging and bring up a lot. I also believe that by supporting parents, we also support children and young people to thrive.

You might be struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or a general sense of being stuck or disconnected. Perhaps you've tried therapy before and found something missing - it helped to a point, but didn't quite get at what keeps you struggling. You might recognise you keep encountering the same difficulties in different relationships or situations. Or you understand intellectually why you feel or do certain things, yet find it difficult to change. You're looking for more than symptom management - you want to understand the patterns underneath your struggles and find a way forward that feels genuinely different.

The troubling part of problematic substance use is the denial. Guilt, shame, and loneliness are dominant forces. Without you noticing, your life becomes disconnected from those you love and what you enjoy. Your mental health is affected by living a double life, especially when you are functioning. Functioning is not living; it’s surviving! When decisions are made to suppress your troubling thoughts and feelings, that is not living either. If you have been exploring Psychology Today, and you found this description, it's not an accident.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
