Hi I’m Diana. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. Are you struggling and feel as if no one ‘gets’ it? Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed or just lost. Sometimes, life throws challenges at us when we least expect them and are least prepared for the impact they may have on our lives. I can help you to make sense of these experiences and emotions. By offering you space to explore your thoughts we can work together to help you move forward. We can find ways to overcome negative thoughts and to stop you feeling stuck.

Welcome. The therapy relationship can be a powerful space to explore concerns you have been having. It is not unusual to feel nervous or awkward about taking the initial step of seeing a therapist, but end up feeling relieved and pleased at the outcome. I have over 20 years experience in helping people recover the quality of their lives from struggles with mental health. My training is in Counselling Psychology, which means that the therapy process is supported by an understanding of the processes behind different behaviours and how the brain works in relation to mental health.

I have a long experience of working with people with a wide range of mental health issues. I have worked as a nurse and support worker in mental health and as a counsellor for adults. I work from the principles of the Person Centred Approach which means that I am led by what my client brings to the counselling session and uphold the belief that every individual has an innate drive to grow towards being more truly themselves, to being the best they can be. It is my job to listen without judgement, to be empathic (to strive to put myself "in your shoes"), and to be accepting of who you are in the widest sense.

A very warm welcome to Lucy Perkins Counselling. I work primarily with the Person Centred approach, for a wide spectrum of issues. Our sessions are entirely led by you, we go your pace and I will hold the utmost respect for your autonomy at all times. My approach is non-directive, relaxed and supportive. Our face to face sessions take place in a private, tranquil and comfortable space in central Exeter. We can be flexible about when we meet and we may get together weekly or fortnightly. Our online session take place using the platform Zoom.

I am a professionally qualified Integrative Counsellor, experienced in working with young people and adults with a wide range of issues. I have a special interest in stress and anxiety, in how the nervous system works and how it impacts our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. I use my experience as a Shiatsu practitioner and my mindfulness practice to help my clients to understand how their body and mind are relating to each other and incorporate mindfulness and relaxation exercises into my sessions where appropriate to help manage anxiety symptoms.

We are all in this together. It’s so big because it’s happening all at once, everywhere. It’s normal to feel fear, overwhelm and disconnect. It can be hard to take a breath and get your feet back on the ground and do what needs to be done. That resource is in you. Having someone to talk to and share your fears with can be really helpful right now, so you don’t have to burden your loved ones. Ultimately, this asks us all to face the limitations of human life and the fact that we die and in this culture that is almost forbidden. I’m willing to look there with you.
