ASD and ADHD, Suicide & Self-Harm, BPD (EUPD), Bereavement, Relationship difficulties, Divorce, working with Domestic abuse (Inc Emotional and Coercive control) Caring for a loved one with a long term illness.
I am a qualified counsellor who works in an integrative way believing that every client is unique and has their own individual requirements. I passionately believe that we all need an empathic and kind ear during the most difficult times in our lives, someone to be there who will listen and sit with us patiently when life feels too hard. At times anxieties, experiences, problems or worries can feel just too heavy to carry alone so that's when counsellors like myself can be of real benefit. I am privileged to say that I have helped my clients work through obstacles that they feel have been holding them back in life.

Through therapy you can find out things about yourself that will help you understand what is going on for you and help to develop your own understanding and gradually learn more about your innermost parts and lead the way to greater acceptance of yourself. This is awareness and will help you feel more empowered to choose to do things differently. I believe this work is about being true to yourself rather than being who you think you 'should' be and to reclaim those parts of you that have been denied. It is both challenging and rewarding work leading to emotional healing and growth.

Welcome, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them" Maya Angelou. Are you thinking past experiences are impacting on your life now, your relationships, family, or your work, and feeling stuck. Perhaps there is trauma in the past: a childhood experience when no-one was there to understand, a single terrifying incident, bullying, boarding school, or have/are experiencing an abusive relationship. Would you like to understand and find resolution and hope to face the future with confidence and resilience and improve your relationships.

I know the past couple of years have been really difficult times for everybody and there have been many changes in how we meet and talk to each other. Certainly in EMDR treatment, we have had to make rapid changes in how we think and work in order to remain available to those in need. My own experience in working online with life's complex and diverse difficulties has found that positive and effective work can equally be achieved via video sessions and has enabled me to work with so many who would otherwise find difficulty in travelling perhaps due to time, distance, work or other factors. Please email me if you wish to know more

Are you feeling anxious, angry or unappreciated? Perhaps your mood has been low for a while and you can’t seem to shift that feeling. Sometimes life events such as trauma, loss, abuse, family problems or work issues can leave us feeling helpless. Perhaps you are considering help to untangle your thoughts. Maybe you think a lot about things that have happened in the past that still affect you. Sometimes there may be a sense that life is lacking in meaning and direction. We can all lose sight of who we really are and what we want from life

It takes tremendous strength and courage to reach out and finally say - something's not working. It can be easy to put aside our doubts, worries, traumas and behaviours, and let our busy lives take the lead. Yet as you know, these feelings don't just disappear, and one day something builds up within us that makes us say - 'ENOUGH, I need to deal with this.' Naturally, our first step is to reach out to friends, family, or colleagues, and although we respect their opinions, do we truly allow ourselves to be vulnerable within these relationships?

Have you ever felt that nobody really gets you? Have you ever been thinking I just do not fit in? If only someone would understand you! I know how lonely that can feel. When we find ourselves making the same mistakes over and over again despite following advice from our family or friends, its time to reach out to someone who can give you a better understanding why do we make the choices we make and how can we break the cycle of bad decisions.

Hi I am person centred counsellor, this means I accept and support you to explore ways to help you overcome any uncomfortable or traumatic emotions you may be experiencing. Sometimes we have experiences in life that can be overwhelming or we just can’t make sense of the events that may have happened to us. Many people may need answers from others and this may never happen, therefore exploring these questions within in a safe place can allow us to have acceptance to help start the healing process and give us back a sense of empowerment.

You may be struggling to cope with every day life, feeling overwhelmed with anxiety & dread social situations that take up your energy, resulting in you feeling there is no hope. Relationships may feel unhealthy, difficult & problematic, or like you just don’t fit in, and this can be within our families, our friendships, in the school environment, in the work place & beyond. Changes & transitions may feel too much & stop you from living the life that you want where you may feel stuck & dissatisfied, & trauma may prevent you from feeling at peace.

Psychoanalytical Psychoanalysis and Integrative Counselling: "The speed and accuracy by which Chris was able to work out our personalities and provide genuinely useful insight was, quite frankly, incredible.  This insight, hard as it was to digest, proved to be so profound to me that I was finally able to unpick what had being going on in my relationship.  His ability to sum up the relationship in one stark metaphor was a watershed moment for me.  Through his insight and continued support I have managed to start to discover myself again and to regain my confidence which had been systematically dismantled."  Mr. M, 2019, Canterbury.

Amongst them, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, problems of identity and sexuality.
If you are struggling with intense feelings of fear, anxiety and sadness and if you find yourself full of panic, despair and frustration you may be trying to understand why you are trapped in these feelings much of the time. If you ruminate on situations, worry about past events, struggle to connect to those in your life and find your days consumed by worry, anger and stress, then a period of therapy may help you to gain insight into the origins of your emotional distress.

Suicidal Ideation Counsellors

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioural therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
