Communication difficulties and breakdowns in our relationships can occur for many different reasons. When they occur, partners, children or indeed the family or even friends might be affected and become involved in some way, and this has a knock-on effect on us as well as others. Changes in family life, whether in somebody’s physical health, their relationships, or in children's behaviour, can be effectively addressed in family therapy. I adopt a non-blaming, collaborative approach to working with clients to find ways of moving forwards in life when feeling stuck. Children and adults are included, either together or individually.
Family therapy supports anyone experiencing the challenges that relationships can bring, exploring the wider issues around dilemmas to bring about change without blame. There is no magic panacea for "fixing" relationships, but we can understand ourselves better, our experiences and how they impact others and then choose how we move forwards from now on.
I am a parent, life partner, daughter and sister and experienced clinician. I am also qualified as a speech and language therapist for acquired communication disorders and have realised how communication is key to our relationships. The stories we tell about ourselves shape how we experience the world and our relationships, and the way our family functions.
