I draw from psychodynamic, relational, systems theory, strength-based and person-centered approaches as well as CBT.
I have over 15 years experience working with teenagers as well as families and adults. The types of issues that I treat include: anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, anger management, self-injurious behaviour, low self-esteem, trauma, grief and life transitions. I believe that people are best able to make sense of how their experiences impact their present lives when they feel seen and heard within a respectful therapeutic relationship. I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space in which you can explore your emotional difficulties, identify any patterns, and draw on your strengths to move forward with your life.

As a therapist I aim to provide a safe none judgemental therapeutic space for individuals, couples or families to reflect on the challenges that they maybe experiencing in their relationships which could be impacting on their emotional well being. Nathalie is aware that often people come to her for help when in crisis and the communication with those we are connected to has become too toxic. Nathalie notes that difficulties in speaking openly with those we are connected to is a common theme within families. Nathalie also has successfully used a relational attachment approach to work with individuals, both adults and young people.

You may be struggling with overwhelming feelings, depression, anxiety, memories of past or recent trauma or perhaps just not feeling yourself. You may be worried about your thoughts or behaviour, either towards yourself or others. Perhaps your relationships have not been very healthy and you want to break the cycle. Therapy can help you to address these issues and bring you back to the self you used to be or move you forward to a stronger healthier place.

Hello and welcome. There may be a number of reasons for seeking counselling and sometimes the reasons might not be completely clear. That is ok, we will work together to better understand what is going on. Deciding to start sessions can be difficult and it is vital to me that you feel comfortable and respected in your Individual journey. Therapy can increase self-awareness as well facilitate an environment for growth and change. It also may be a place for you to process life experiences and events, including the past and present.

You feel like you can’t cope, you’re fed up, you’ve had enough. Your life isn’t what you want it to be. Living has become hard and there’s no joy in your world. It’s like everyone else except you is happy. You’re haunted by your past. You think you’ll never be happy again. You feel alone like no one else understands how hard your life is at the moment. On the outside you look fine but inside you feel like you’re dying. Everything you do feels like an act to look like you’re okay. You don’t know how to change things or what to do about it anymore.

I am an Integrative counsellor and have a broad range of experience working with clients including young people and adults. The approach I use allows me to move freely between modalities while adapting and bringing together relevant elements according to individual needs and requirements. I believe the essence of my role as a counsellor is the therapeutic relationship between the client and me, developing a trusting relationship within the counselling session is essential. I involve the use of empathy, non-judgment, and authenticity. This alongside confidentiality creates a safe environment for the client and I to work together.

Strength-Based Counsellors

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
