I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with a private practice in Bristol and Taunton. I work with individuals from all walks of life seeking help with many different problems, for example with depression and anxiety, panic states, phobias, obsessional behaviour or angry outbursts. People who turn to psychotherapy may also feel worried in more general ways such as feeling aimless or dissatisfied in their work life, or feeling unable to make satisfactory personal or sexual relationships. With empathy and careful listening my aim is always to help you feel better about yourself and your life, in work or in love.
My practice is informed by psychoanalytic theory which considers that there is more to consciousness than meets the eye - we have feelings, thoughts and impulses that we are often not aware of. Conveying this understanding through interpretation aims to help you gain insight into your emotional states and find relief and enrichment in your personal life.
My aim is to offer you the opportunity to talk freely, so that I can try to understand the underlying emotional conflict from what is being communicated, both verbally and non-verbally. The therapeutic relationship, and the gradual process of understanding which occurs within that relationship, can enable insights and bring about lasting change.
