I offer online therapy specialising in eating disorders, body image difficulties, and related issues. I can help if thoughts about food rule your life, you’re sick of feeling out of control, or you feel like no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to move forward/sustain change. I have personally recovered from an eating disorder and body dysmorphia so understand the importance of getting the right support to overcome your food issues, improve your body image, and live a rich, meaningful life. I can also help with other things that might be getting in the way such as anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, stress, and grief.

I have been a Counsellor / Psychotherapist / Hypnotherapist for over 25years I specialised in the field addiction for many years. Working within addiction offered a wide and varied opportunity to work and become familiar with many client issues. Clients relying upon substances, use as a coping mechanism, however substance use causes further mental health issues which further complicates their ability to cope. I now work solely within private practice based at home where clients can relax in a confidential informal setting. This allows them time explore their own needs in a time frame which meets their own specific needs.

Empowering men to navigate life's challenges with confidence and clarity. Talking Spaces is an accessible counselling specialist service for men’s mental health, available in person or via Zoom. Generally men by nature are more action focused, so when it comes to managing difficult life events and emotions I use action and solution based therapeutic approaches and interventions when working with men’s mental health issues. Men need a service with the knowledge understand that social and cultural norms and ingrained beliefs about masculinity are one of the main barriers to seeking counselling in the first place.

Are you experiencing feelings and thoughts of dissatisfaction, disillusion and simply unhappiness with how you live life? Are you looking for ways to improve yourself by meditating, reading, watching talks and podcasts in an attempt to feel better? These ways can certainly guide and educate as well as inform you, however having no other person to bear witness to your growth and learning as well as to gently challenge and check your perception of reality, can limit your journey to reach your destination. Do you want to ‘change’ but don’t know ‘how’ or ‘what’ or ‘where’ to begin? Are you ready, willing, able and committed to start?

I also am comfortable working with issues of faith and spirituality.
The counselling I provide offers you the time and space that so many of us need but often lack, especially when life becomes hard or you feel less able to cope as you once did. You may be struggling with depression, low mood, anxiety, low self-esteem, a relationship breakdown, bereavement, or perhaps there is no label that can best describe where you are at right now. Whatever the case and wherever you are at, I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for you to begin your counselling journey.

Over the years I have learnt to use the challenges and adversities of life as a way for self-growth and connecting with my spirituality.
Hi I am a person centred counsellor, and clinical supervisor based in South Manchester. I believe the first step to therapy can be the most difficult yet courageous, there are times when we could use some space to process what we are feeling and explore life issues. Allowing yourself permission to reach out and talk to someone can be half the battle. I offer a warm, non-judgemental safe space allowing you to be yourself and be met where you are at with compassion and acceptance.

I have been a priest in the Anglican church for twenty years and bring to my therapy work an understanding of faith, spirituality and meaning from traditions in contemplative Christianity.
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with six years experience of working with clients. My training is 'Integrative’ which means that I work with distress, trauma, and all of life's difficulties in a way which seeks to create,or recreate, a sense of wholeness and relationship. I want to work with you in partnership, seeking to understand together what’s troubling you, and where things might have got stuck. We will talk about the past, as all therapists do, but I also want to help you think about what is going on for you now. The things which have brought you to therapy.

Spirituality Counsellors

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
