I am a highly qualified UKCP accredited, Clinical Integrative Psychotherapist, qualified at MSc level with over 12 years’ experience. I will support you when life is feeling tough, even overwhelming, especially when you are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, grief, bereavement, feeling lost or empty or having negative thoughts and feelings or perhaps there are changes you want to make in your life and would benefit from being in a calm and nurturing space. We can work together in a compassionate environment by exploring what is happening for you at the moment and perhaps looking at your past, such as your childhood or relationships, how it affects you now whilst helping you to move forward to live the life you want to experience.

I love working with people who are openminded and honest and looking to improve their lives and explore some of their blocks. I have a lot of experience working with depression, anxiety, abuse, addiction and low self esteem. If you aren't happy with yourself or your life, I would love to find out why and help you to explore ways of making positive changes. I have transformed my life in a positive way so I speak from experience when I say radical transformation is possible if you are open to it. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to talk about the things that are really important to you.

Having undergone therapy myself I appreciate the importance of finding a therapist whom is able to facilitate a safe, warm and confidential environment to support the exploration of your story. I have worked with an array of clients whom have accessed therapy for varying reasons that they feel are inhibiting them from living an authentic life. My role within the therapeutic relationship is to work alongside an individual to facilitate self-exploration and consider alternative routes that may lay before them. I offer individual, group, relationship and family therapy. Please follow the link to my website for further information about these services in more detail. I have extensive knowledge of addiction in all of its forms and have worked with both those in the depths of their addiction as well as those whom are in recovery and have also supported friends and family members too.

At some point in life, most of us long for new ways of being. This can be brought on through a period of depression, anxiety, traumatic past events, relationship problems, or grief and loss. Many of my clients have never seen a therapist before and I recognise that choosing to do so is a big decision. It often comes from a realisation that now is the time to take a pause, to reflect and to invest in oneself. For couples counselling, I know that navigating the complexities of our relationships can be challenging - humans are complex - two of us together is more complex! Having space to talk and be heard is a good place to start.

My approach to counselling is rooted in person-centred philosophy and a belief that each person is able - with the right support- to overcome challenging life situations. Therapy provides an opportunity to grow, develop and heal. My role in this is to help you understand yourself better and make sense of your experience of the world, including those aspects which may have negative effects on your quality of life and wellbeing. We all have something to work on, to understand better or change. This could be a specific problem like a bereavement, relationship or specific fear or a more general feeling of unease, emptiness or discontent

Life can be difficult and stressful, and navigating its challenges can become hard. Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed, getting out of bed in the morning is hard, maybe relationships are difficult, you have worries about the future or the past is looming heavily in your thoughts.

Having been in clinical practice for over 45 years, much of it within the NHS, I have experience in working with most kinds of emotional and psychological difficulties. These include trauma, relationship problems, all kinds of anxiety states, depression and low self-esteem, disorders in the sense of self, ADHD - along with the more subtle states of "feeling different" and the challenges of being a "highly sensitive person" or "indigo" being. Spirituality and working with our higher dimensional aspects are a core part of my work, along with help in identifying a person's 'soul mission' and resolving blocks to pursuing this.

Spirituality Counsellors

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
