Trauma can often underpin common mental health difficulties, and I can work with you to process the source of your difficulties and/or focus on your current symptoms. You may wish to focus on your current experiences of depression, anxiety, etc., or wish to address the underlying difficulties that have led to these. I also have a keen interest in complex trauma, dissociation, childhood emotional neglect, medically unexplained symptoms, functional neurological disorder, chronic pain, chronic fatigue and other physical difficulties.

Hello my name is Linda, I am an experienced psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer. I am currently accepting short and long term client work and supervision clients, to work online.   I work individually, with couples or pairs, or in small groups.  I also supervise those that offer supervision to others.  I believe relationship is key to successful therapy and supervision because it allows trust, respect and mutuality to build which results in having an open, safe space in which to work. Sometimes having the opportunity to talk with someone impartial and independent is essential.

It is normal for people to experience difficulties in life. There are many ways that our body tells us that something is not right: Feeling unfulfilled Feeling stressed or anxious, feeling lonely and isolated, feeling bored, confused. It can be unsettling when we experience these feelings, but it is our natural way of alerting us to needing change. As a therapist, I am here to support you through any challenges that you may be facing. I can provide a safe, confidential, and supportive space for you to explore who you are and how you relate to others.

Post Lock down I am seeing more people whose relationship is under greater pressure due to both being at home, financial worries, anxiety about the changes that are happening in the world around them to name but a few. Others are seeking help due to the loss of a loved one, individuals are feeling isolated and having time to face fears that busy lives help supress. All of these things are things that therapy can help with.

I use sound, art materials and psychotherapeutic touch called biodynamic massage as well as somatic techniques.
My work centres around trauma, developmental trauma, emotional neglect, the highly sensitive person and the capacity to understand and express feelings and emotions. Through working with body awareness, somatically and with mindfulness breathing, you will come to understand how these feelings arise and why your body responds and behaves in the way it does; why you say things and act as you do. As you become aware of the effect of this on yourself and others, you can make informed decisions and choices on how to change this so that you live your life fully and authentically to reach its full potential.

I believe that my specialism in working with trauma, using a variety of specialist trauma approaches which include, Therapeutic Reparenting, EMDR and Somatic Psychotherapy models, can benefit your healing journey.
For some time now you might have been struggling to make sense of how you are feeling and wish to talk things through with a professional. This could relate to difficulties with your mood and some behaviours you are not happy with and want to explore and work on these. Perhaps this was because of a recent event, or something that is related to your early childhood experiences, or even a combination of different life circumstances. You may be thinking that despite already seeking help for some of the issues that you have been facing, you feel unfulfilled and think that something is missing in terms of healing.

Lastly, I can incorporate approaches and techniques that address both the psychological and somatic aspects of Trauma.
Welcome to this page, I am Virginia, an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist. I have a profound passion for working with clients who have experienced Narcisisstic abuse, either romantic or parental, and loss. Recognizing the presence of a narcissistic individual can be subtle yet deeply impactful. In the case of a parent, telltale signs include enduring harsh criticism, feeling perpetually inadequate no matter your efforts, and facing attempts at control through guilt-tripping or excessive demands for attention. Their lack of empathy leaves you feeling unheard and invalidated, and their mood swings keep you un edge and unsure

When requested, my approach can involve understanding of the nervous system and somatic practices, which allows me to work holistically, considering both psychological and physical factors which may be affecting well-being.
Hello, I'm Chloe Johnstone, a dedicated psychotherapist with a passion for supporting individuals. I offer collaborative psychotherapy with my use of the Relational Approach, and my Integrative training allows me to draw from various approaches, such as: Transactional Analysis, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Somatic Therapy. Relational psychotherapy emphasises the importance of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client. Together, we would consider the role of interpersonal dynamics and how past relationships, especially in early life, influence your current psychological state.

Hi I'm Susie. I believe that relationships are really important. We encounter lots of different relationships over the course of our lives: friends, siblings, parents, bosses, co-workers…and then there’s the relationship we have with ourselves. Our unique life experiences inform our thoughts, feelings and behaviours; and sometimes we can get stuck in outdated patterns. Common mental health conditions such as: depression, anxiety, OCD, phobias, and addiction, are often symptoms of the effects of adverse life experiences. Treating the underlying causes of whichever symptoms are affecting you can dramatically reduce their impact.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
