I am passionate in helping individuals and couples to take the right steps for them. I support my clients, to make a difference or find an acceptance in their life. I work with my clients in exploring the difficulties fears re experiencing and we work to gain an understanding of thoughts and feelings. Their emotional disturbance can be discussed and put in to perspective to help make changes to the unhealthy thought or behavioural patterns. Sometimes, addressing where the negative beliefs have originated from, helps to find the positive changes and overcomes the difficulties. Giving my clients a new awareness, growth and belief.

Perhaps you are struggling to deal with constantly high levels of anxiety, difficulty managing your emotions and feeling like you're never good enough. You might still be coming to terms with the reality that you have suffered narcissistic abuse and are looking for someone who can help you to understand and break free from your past trauma so you can live the life you want to live.

Only you can do it, but you don’t have to do it alone. Working collaboratively can enhance your autonomy and support your empowerment to become the very best version of you. I play an active part during therapy sessions; I intervene, I reflect, I share theories and perspective, I ask questions and explore ideas. My way of working is relational, meaning it’s collaborative and dynamic. I work with individuals, couples and families in my office in central Wilmslow (online is also available)

I specialise in empowering woman and helping them bring what they want into their lives. I can help you work on low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, trauma, and much more. Having therapy is all about making positive change. Henry Ford once said “If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got”. It’s very easy to fall into the trap of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. My priority is to guide you in changing your mindset, your perspective and your quality of life.

As YODA said, “In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way.” Counselling can help you work through your problems and gain understanding into why you think, feel and behave the way that you do. We can then work together on change. I offer a warm, supportive, confidential and non-judgmental space to help if you are struggling with the demands of daily life. I help people to not only survive but thrive. I also like to balance the sometimes hard work of sessions with humour.

Hi my name's Ruth and I'm a MBACP registered integrated counsellor and Psychotherapist. I offer a safe space for you to explore any issues, worries or concerns you may have, its easy for issues to weigh heavy on our minds and start to overwhelm, causing anxiety and depression, especially if they stop us sleeping and getting rest. As an integrated counsellor I don’t believe one model of counselling fits all, as everyone is an individual I feel therapy should be individually tailored to each client. Having a safe space, with an impartial, non-judgemental counsellor to confide in, can help us unpack what is happening for us.

I am a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBT). I am a Chronic Pain Specialist with over 15 years working in mental health. I work in private practice and in a NHS Chronic Pain Service. I am also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am always non-judgemental, empathic, compassionate and approachable. CBT is a very collaborative therapy so this means we work together as a team to work towards your goals and gain a mutual understanding of your main difficulties. This will allow us to agree a best way to move forward.

I feel passionately about working with clients who are struggling with their emotional wellbeing. These difficulties can cause difficulties in relationships, at work and on a person's experiences of connecting with themselves and the world around them. I work sensitively and supportively with clients who have experienced a number of difficult life experiences including grief, trauma, relationship difficulties to name but a few. I can help you to feel like you develop a better more compassionate understanding of yourself and help you to feel like you are moving forward in life rather than feeling stuck and directionless.

To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
