I am a Person-Centred Counsellor who provides a warm and welcoming space to nurture and develop my client’s own inner self and power. I believe throughout life we all face moments of great difficulties; however, we have hidden depths of strength that can be discovered and utilised when given a safe place to explore. Making the decision to seek support from a counsellor can feel daunting. I will work with you to meet your needs supporting you to feel safe in your personal journey. What can initially be perceived as difficult or frightening can actually inspire insight giving the opportunity to thrive, change and move forward.

You might be living with the impact of trauma, or experiencing anxiety, low mood, shame or stuckness. Or you might need a space to open up and be fully heard, to explore who you are and what matters to you, and how to move towards a fulfilling and meaningful life. You might struggle with self-harm or intrusive thoughts, depressive episodes or relationship difficulties. We can work together at your own pace, on your own goals to make sense of your experiences and reactions and developing manageable ways of coping with stress and hardship.

Nature is changing as we move from season to season. Maybe there are changes in your life that you’d like to look into or new things that are occurring in your life that you need support to navigate. Could anxiety be making you feel heavy, could your relationships or loss of a loved one make you feel alone. Do you struggle with your self-esteem or have trauma you want to explore. Whatever the challenge you face I can offer a safe, empathic, non judgmental, trauma-informed space to help you move through your challenges in life.

I practice attachment-based psychoanalytical psychotherapy both in-person and online. Working collaboratively, we'll explore how the echoes of past relationships might impact the way you think and feel today. I offer a safe, supportive, and compassionate space where you can deepen your understanding of your inner world and make meaningful changes. My approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and respect for each person’s unique journey. I believe that the challenges we face often arise from early experiences and relationships, and by gently exploring these patterns together, new possibilities for healing and growth can emerge

Ever thought about starting counselling sessions but you don't know where to start? Ever feel as if you would value a space that is just for you; to talk through your worries when things feel too heavy and just too much? You won't be judged here- just heard, understood and supported.

Hello and welcome to my page. I’m Debbie and I work with children, young people and adults. Life can feel overwhelming at times: stress at school or work, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or past experiences that still feel painful. You may notice your child feeling withdrawn, anxious, or struggling with friendships and self-esteem, or you may be feeling stuck, dissatisfied with your life, or disconnected. Perhaps you are looking for ways to feel happier, overcome a difficulty and feel more resilient? You don’t have to go through your difficulties alone.

I am a warm, friendly person and a good listener. I have a very empathic understanding and vast experiences from my own personal life. This has shaped me to be the person I am today. Things from our childhoods and certain traumas, can have us acting out behaviours that can be damaging to us. I have experience working with relationship breakdowns, alcohol addiction, depression, anxiety and self harm. I have worked with adolescents and adults of all disabilities. I've worked a great deal with confidence building and low self-esteem. I can help you recognise these behaviours and what triggers them.

You are here because something in your life does not feel how you want it to or maybe how it used to. There is hope in you that you can feel differently or work out what it is you are looking for, or maybe find yourself again. Maybe you just need somewhere to talk confidentially and to feel understood.

You’re here because you want to feel differently, to act differently. Perhaps there’s something important about who you are that’s been long lost, concealed behind masks like confidence, strength, self-sufficiency, humour… or their opposites. The problem might be localised in specific contexts. Or come in response to a change. Or show up in ‘symptoms’ like anxiety, illness, or substance abuse. For me, therapy is about connecting with what’s really going on with you, where that comes from and why, and helping you to be ‘found’ to yourself - in a way that's unique to you.

I am a integrative counsellor, which means I use different counselling approaches and theories in my work. I aim to create a space that puts you and what you need at the centre of my counselling work. This means my approach to counselling work varies from person to person but I always take a client led approach, meaning that you take the lead on what it is you want to bring into the counselling room. I believe that having the space to reflect, give time to any issues we face and be heard, is essential for us to thrive as people.

I work with individuals, couples and families that need to face a trauma, a loss, problems of anxiety, depression, fears or relational problems (such as couple conflict, emotional or behavioral problem in a child, alimentary disorder, relational closure in an adolescent). Working together will help everyone finding new energy to change and when everyone is involved in a transformation, it will be stronger and lasting. As an Italian psychotherapist I work in Italian and in English with the foreign community in UK. Sharing the experience of migration always helps to face a new life in a different country.

How can I find a therapist in SG1?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
