Finding a therapist and taking part in counselling can be a stressful process, whether or not you've seen a counsellor before. You may be considering counselling to discuss a specific issue, event or problem in your life, or perhaps you are negotiating a major change or period of anxiety or depression. I believe everyone has the innate capacity to reach their full potential, but sometimes difficult experiences and relationships can stifle growth. I offer you a safe, empathic, and reflective space in which to negotiate blocks in your life, develop your self-esteem and give you the confidence to follow your path.

Sometimes the challenges that we face become too much. Maybe you experienced or witnessed violence or abuse at any time in your life. Perhaps you are feeling anxious, angry, stressed, depressed, rageful, scared or in despair. I offer a warm and confidential space in which we can explore together and try to resolve your problems. My practice is anti-oppressive and anti-racist, and I believe that we can be damaged by the expectations of the world around us as well as by our earliest and most intimate relationships. Do get in touch and let's see together how I can help you make the changes you desire.

Are you feeling low at most times , anxious, angry or just overwhelmed mentally and emotionally. Experiences like death of a loved one, childhood trauma, miscarriage, infertility ,abuse, divorce or separation are issues that affect us deeply. One can feel alone, unable to express themselves or expected to accept, cope or move on quickly. I see people as unique individuals, we all experience and react to things differently. My aim is to offer a warm , empathic and tranquil space for individuals to explore their experiences at their own pace and to use each counselling session for whatever they need from it.

I offer a free initial session, daytime/evening, as it is important that you feel suited to your therapist. I am a UKCP member and have provided psychotherapy to treat many issues including anxiety, depression and sexual assault/abuse over the past three years. I have a degree in psychology and while completing my 5-year MSc., I provided short and long-term psychotherapy for mainly mental health issues, vulnerability, or past and present relationship worries. Having been through the therapy process, I understand the importance of a non-judgemental, confidential and safe space and this is the environment I provide.

Hi my name is Karen. Thank you for looking at my profile. I often find that people who seek Counselling and Psychotherapy do so for many reasons that are common to many. You may be wanting a safe and confidential space to speak about a problem causing difficulties. It might be that you feel unable to speak to those closest to you and you need someone outside of your life, someone separate and non judgemental to talk with to help you make sense of things so that you can start to feel better and indeed make some changes. You might not know what help is out there or where to begin, here is a starting point.

Like the Foo Fighters song lyrics, "It's times like these you learn to live again", I believe the COVID-19 pandemic has made many of us re-evaluate our circumstances, our choices, our lives. If you need help riding this wave of self-discovery, I can help you. Some people start counselling when their ‘symptoms’ become a barrier in their life. Instead of treating the ‘symptoms’ which are on the surface level (depression, anxiety, irritability, anger etc), I will help you to get to the root of it all, in a gentle, non-judgemental and empathic way and working at your pace.

If you find yourself affected by unrelenting anxiety, overwhelmed by sadness, or simply unsure of who you are, my counselling approach will help you formulate ways of moving forward that are authentic and unique to you. Many of us go through life looking for approval and avoiding the disapproval of others; limiting our ability to realise our potential. We rarely have the opportunity to understand our world and appreciate what's truly meaningful to our lives. My practice aims to facilitate psychological growth by enabling you to identify and eliminate blocks that are foreclosing authenticity and psychological wellbeing.

I am an experienced Gay male therapist and particularly welcome enquiries from male clients and clients within the LGBTQ+ community. Difference denied is difference devalued, there are many cultural and societal factors that can cause psychological distress for people, it is important that these can be sensitively understood and worked with in therapy with someone who has training & experience of diversity. I am a strong advocate for Men's mental health by challenging and reducing stigma around gender stereotypes. I offer a safe supportive space enabling you to explore your current difficulties and issues, whatever they may be.

Self-Harming (Cutting) Counsellors
Self-harm (SH) or deliberate self-harm (DSH) is the deliberate infliction of damage to your own body. It includes cutting, burning, scratching, banging or hitting yourself, interfering with wound healing, and the ingestion of toxic substances or objects. While self injury (SI) can look like suicide, it's not; most people who mutilate themselves do it as a way to regulate mood. People who hurt themselves in this way may be motivated by a need to distract themselves from inner turmoil, or to quickly release anxiety that builds due to an inability to express intense emotions.

If you're looking for help with self-harming in NG5 or for someone who self harms, or cuts themselves, or bangs or hits themselves, these NG5 counsellors provide counselling for self harming in NG5. They include counsellors, who understand self harming in NG5, psychologists and therapists. They can provide self harming counselling in NG5 or treatment for self harming.

How can I tell if a counsellor is right for me?
Counsellors and therapists in NG5 are able to work with a wide range of issues.

For example, you can find CBT Therapists in NG5 who focus on a specific issue, as well as DBT Therapists in NG5 who help clients with new skills to manage their emotions and relationships.
