I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, registered with the BACP. I work with individuals and with couples for short term and long term periods. I provide a safe and confidential space for my clients to talk and explore the challenges they are facing and how this impacts their life. I respect the individuality of my clients, their experience and capacity to decide and choose their own destiny. You may have a goal or outcome you'd like to achieve, but often you may not, and this is okay. I work relationally and believe the supportive and trusting relationship between myself and my clients helps facilitate change and a way forward.

Life can bring many challenges, and therapy is a space to learn to cope with emotional setbacks in a creative and positive way. I view my role as supporting people to understand themselves better and make changes in their lives. I have a specialist interest in high-functioning, high-achieving individuals who find themselves unhappy and burnt out. I also work at the Nightingale Hospital, Marylebone and I have previously worked at Maggie’s, a not-for-profit provider to the NHS for people with cancer and their loved ones. I really enjoy helping people to improve their well-being and create lives that are meaningful to them.

Hello. It can be daunting to take the first step to find the right kind of help. Some people seek help for specific reasons, or diagnoses. However, many people also come because they feel stuck, struggle with strong emotions that threaten to overwhelm, have a past loss or bereavement, low self- esteem, lack confidence or sense of self or have a loss of meaning in their lives, dissatisfaction in work or an inability to form satisfactory relationships. All of which make it hard to function at your best or feel that life is fulfilling. You don’t always need a diagnosed condition to access therapy.

Everybody goes through difficult periods in their life from time to time. For some this can just mean a small, irritating problem that just doesn't seem to go away, and for others, it can be something much more serious that makes life seem overwhelming and utterly bleak. Whatever your issue, no matter how apparently large or small, it is my role as a therapist to see, hear, and understand, and to work alongside you to help you find a way through. Flexible appointment times and concessions on fees are always available, and I am open to working with people from any location or time zone.

Seeking therapy can feel scary. Whether there’s a specific issue that’s been affecting your life for a while or you need a place to work through a difficult time, I aim to create a safe environment for you to go at your own pace and fully be yourself. First and foremost, we’ll work together to build a space that feels comfortable, where you can be as open and honest as possible. This can often feel vulnerable, especially when we’re used to putting on masks for people or editing our behaviour in different situations. But my experience as an integrative counsellor means we can adapt how we work to suit your needs.

You as a person are at the centre of my approach to therapy. When life is a struggle, it can be surprisingly helpful to speak to someone who really listens, carefully, warmly, and without judgement. It can be a starting point to finding a way forward, especially if it is currently difficult to speak to those around you or you’re going around in circles with an intractable issue. My approach is to work with you to help you achieve your objectives and to help develop a more understanding and accepting relationship to yourself. Ultimately everyone is their own life expert. By working together, we can help fine tune this expertise.

How long would you like to be in the dark, telling me how dark it is? When shall we look for the light? Each of us is born with a powerful set of tools which we use to seek out and satisfy our needs for emotional nourishment. If those needs are being met in healthy, balanced and sustainable ways it is very much easier to maintain good emotional health. However, if that guidance system is not properly programmed, or if it has been damaged in some way, perhaps through trauma or poor skills development, it will be difficult to build a firm foundation for emotional well-being. Really good therapy will address those issues, quickly.

We all have the capacity for growth, given the right conditions. Part of what therapy can be is the creation of a space where those conditions are met. During our 50 minute sessions, we will work toward a common goal. My role is to try to understand your lived experiences, in a confidential, non-discriminatory environment. Not to judge you. But most importantly therapy is about what you want to use the time and space for. People think of counselling as a last resort. We often keep our problems to ourselves, we compound all that feeling and pain and it emerges in our day to day lives in different ways, depression, stress, anxiety.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
