After 20 years working within investment banking I left to follow my true passions neuroscience, psychology, coaching and change. My coaching style focuses on treating self awareness like a muscle, requiring ongoing nurturing, exploring cognitive, physical and emotional awareness. This approach can offer significant benefits to health and wellbeing and also ensure that goals align with what you really want and need. The neuroscience element allows you to have a greater understanding of what your nervous system needs.

Hi my name is Chris and I have been working as a counsellor for over 20 years. As well as having a small private practice, I spent 12 years working in schools with parents who came with a variety of issues - domestic abuse, loss and bereavement, sexual abuse, lack of confidence and self esteem, trauma and adverse childhood experiences. Experience has confirmed for me that a relationship of trust, understanding and empathy needs to be developed before personal growth can start - I feel this is my area of strength.

I work in a way that helps people to feel heard and understood. I help people to share their struggles and explore what is causing difficulties. Therapy can help people gain new understandings and cope better when life is hard. Having that contained space can create ripples throughout your week where growth happens. I offer online therapy and outdoor therapy. Outdoor therapy is available in South East London in areas such as Abbey Wood, Plumstead, Woolwich, Bexleyheath. Greenwich may also be possible.

Hello, my name is Michelle, I am a qualified and registered integrative therapist. As an Integrative Psychotherapist I use a variety of different approaches, drawing on whatever seems most helpful to you. This allows me to adapt my way of working to each client’s individual needs. I very much view therapy as a collaborative process, where both therapist and client contribute, and the main focus is on building a supportive and trusting relationship. As an integrative therapist I am trained in three main therapeutic frames, the Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

I can help with difficulties related to one's identity, relationships, and performance at work or sports. Common experiences may be a sense that you feel stuck or you may have noticed that you repeat the same dysfunctional cycle that does not serve you well. Major life changes may also open up unresolved wounds that may be causing disruptions in your everyday experiences.

I am an Integrative Counsellor working with clients from age 7 to beyond retirement age with issues such as anxiety, stress, depression, loss, bereavement, low self-esteem, family issues, relationship or work-related issues. My clients are from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and are of different genders and sexual orientations. Our life experiences help shape who we are today. We cannot change the past but with help, we can question our thought processes and let go of disruptive patterns of behaviour. Improving our overall emotional and physical wellbeing starts with talking about our issues.

Sometimes, life feels a little out of balance. It's important that we find our own answers to the things that concern us about our lives. It's also important that we find a way to do this that suits our preferences, our needs and our styles. It's vital that we find a place where we can consider those questions about our lives and the situations we find ourselves in with patience, compassion and care. Finding a counsellor or psychotherapist to be with us can bring enormous benefit during difficult times.

I prefer to work in an integrative and flexible way as I don't believe in a one size fits all approach to therapy, you're an individual and so the way that we work together will be equally individual. Essentially this means that I will work with you to explore your problems and find emotional balance in your life. I believe that even if you are feeling the lowest you have ever felt things can get better and that you are absolutely able to make changes in your life.

My experience is very broad, from a number of years working in the NHS with complex mental health issues to mainstream children, and children with special educational needs. I can work with anyone and especially if you struggle to verbalise and connect with your emotions.

I have 17 years experience of offering a supportive, confidential place in which to make some sense of symptoms such as anxiety, stress, depression, or a sense of general dissatisfaction. You may have suffered a loss, or trauma, or be going through a transition in your life and would like some help in learning to cope. People come to therapy for many reasons, and I see my role as therapist as being someone who can support you in learning more about yourself, your thinking and behaviours, your relationships, and your unconscious motivations, supporting you to create meaning, and to make the changes that you feel you need.

Life can change very quickly, either through loss or events happening around us. This can be confusing and frighting, traumatic even. causing anxiety and stress which can feel overwhelming. With our feelings being invisible to others, life events can leave us feeling lonely our emotions impossible to over come, holding us back in life. I believe counselling can offer a way forward, relieving some of the burden of these feelings. helping to calm and quieten your internal world. Giving you back control of your life.

I am a long-established and well-regarded counsellor, psychotherapist, and supervisor. Since 2001, I have offered professional private psychotherapy from my exclusive suite of welcoming rooms in Eltham. I have broad experience with most issues. However, bereavement, loss, and change are my particular specialties. How can I find a therapist in SE18?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
