I specialise in supporting adults who are feeling overwhelmed. Stress can happen with a sudden change such as bereavement, job loss or relationship ending. It can also build with an increase in responsibilities. There can be times when life is quiet, giving you time to remember difficult past events. These memories can be troubling and make everyday life difficult. Overwhelm can show up as anxiety, low mood, avoiding things you used to enjoy. Perhaps work is too much now, or you find you are drinking/eating more than usual. Your sleep pattern may have changed. Effective help is here now.

Welcome – I'm a Counselling Psychologist based just outside Dunfermline, with over 15 years of experience in both the NHS and private sector. I work alongside people to help make sense of emotional distress and identify meaningful ways to move forward. Therapy can offer a supportive space to explore unhelpful life patterns — the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that keep us stuck — and to develop greater awareness, understanding, and tools for change.

I am an Italian psychologist and psychotherapist based in Edinburgh and Whitburn, Bathgate. Given my training in these two areas, I work with various issues that may afflict you, such as depression, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorders, relationship issues, etc. Also, I use an affirmative approach in my work. This means that I validate and support the needs of people of sexual and gender minorities, promoting the search and the expression of an authentic dimension of themselves and their own identity.

I am a psychodynamic walk & talk therapist. I specialise in gently exploring unresolved early life experiences that may still be shaping your present. These unresolved issues often lie beneath the surface, waiting to be fully processed. I work with trauma, anxiety, depression, and those feelings of being "stuck" that can seem overwhelming. Walk & Talk helps calm the overwhelm. Together, we’ll create space to pause, reflect, and uncover how past events might be influencing you now. This process can stir emotions, but it also offers real relief and the opportunity to see yourself and your life with greater clarity and compassion.

Hello, my name is Ellie, and I’m a CBT therapist. If you’ve stumbled on this page, I can imagine you may be going through a difficult time. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed or not quite yourself, and it feels hard to see a way forward. I understand how challenging it can be to break free from patterns of negative thinking and behaviour — it can feel like being tangled in knots you can’t untie. That’s where CBT can help. Together we’ll gently work through these patterns and find ways to move forward with more balance and self-compassion.

You're doing everything 'right' but still feel disconnected, anxious or on edge. I'm a counselling psychologist supporting high-functioning adults break free from cycles of avoidance, self blame and over-responsibility. Most of my experience has involved helping people who have experienced abuse, trauma and emotional neglect. Especially those who are used to prioritising others, feeling numb, ‘getting on with it’, and having to stay strong. I’ve listened to and supported them in understanding their feelings, improving self-belief, understanding their past and create meaningful change to build their own future.

I offer a genuine, warm, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel truly heard and supported as you explore whatever is on your mind. I believe that real change in therapy happens when we embrace who we truly are. Together, we’ll gently work through any beliefs or habits that might be holding you back, helping you reconnect with your most authentic self. I deeply respect your pace in this journey—you’ll guide the process, deciding what to explore and when you're ready to share. Sometimes, just saying something out loud can be enough to create a shift, but there’s also space for those deeper conversations when you’re ready for them.

Choosing a therapist can be a stressful process, and it's difficult to decide which kind of therapy to try. Many people find it helpful to work with a therapist who has trained in more than one therapy, who can switch to a different therapy when needed, and who can tailor sessions according to your needs. My 16 years experience in supporting neurodivergent clients (with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia or other difficulties) led me to further training in 2021 in autism, and specialised CBT and ACT for ADHD and emotional regulation problems.

Whether you want to talk things through, understand yourself or navigate change - I offer a safe, warm space when you can do this important emotional work. I can help you work out what you need and build the skills and resources to get there. Starting therapy is a risk and can feel vulnerable - I know and respect this deeply. Some people like to have clear goals and others prefer a looser space to talk - I can work either way. You may also have experiences of therapy you have liked, or would prefer to avoid. In our sessions, I can help you think about the difficulties, complexities and changes you need to think about.

My counselling practice is rooted in the belief that real change grows out of a relationship where you feel truly seen, understood, and accepted. Counselling is a space where it’s enough to arrive as yourself, bringing the worries, uncertainties, and hopes that are part of your story. In our sessions, we’ll create a space where you feel safe to be authentic , and together we will develop a deeper sense of acceptance and understanding – both between us and, most importantly, within yourself. I work from a person-centred, psychodynamic, and somatic foundation.

In the busy pace of today's world, it can be difficult to find the time to sit with our thoughts and feelings. It can also be challenging to lay them out before someone else or to speak from the heart without fear of judgement.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
