Hello and a warm welcome. Counselling is a process in which a trained therapist can help you to understand and deal with difficult emotions that you may be experiencing. These can be linked with previous difficult life experiences. People often seek counselling when they are going through challenging times in their lives. You may be feeling low, anxious or depressed. I can help you make sense of what is happening and try to help you to find ways of dealing with this.

I’d like to begin by welcoming you and acknowledging the step it takes to begin therapy, especially if you have spent much of your life feeling “not good enough,” “too much,” or as though you don’t quite belong. I am a qualified Counsellor working primarily with anxiety and trauma, and I often support people who carry deep-rooted feelings of shame, inadequacy, or self-doubt that began in early life. When we grow up in environments where our emotional needs are not consistently met, we can internalise painful messages that continue to shape how we relate to ourselves and others in adulthood.

Hello and Welcome to Worth Counselling, a safe and supportive counselling space for women! I don’t know if you have ever had the opportunity to share your story where someone really listens. I mean really listens, wanting to know you, your story, your ups and downs. Where nothing is off limits. Space to speak what maybe you’ve never spoken before. Sitting in the counsellee seat is not always easy and opening up to someone you do not know can be daunting. I know that taking that first step requires courage and I would love to walk with you on your journey.

Do you feel a bit lost, frustrated, down or hopeless and unsure of how to make changes? Perhaps you feel like you are repeating the same life patterns. You may feel like you have tried everything and are on your last attempt. Well done for taking this step as I understand how daunting it can be, having done so myself. Lots of people are unsure of what to expect, fear being judged, or have difficulty opening up. I believe we could all benefit from therapy at times. How often do you have someone listen entirely to you in life? Choosing the right therapist can be overwhelming and its important we connect first in a free 15 minute call.

I have particular experience in: • Trauma and recovery (including sexual assault) • Perinatal mental health ( pregnancy & early parenthood) • Self-esteem and identity • Relationship and life challenges • I can also work across a wide range of emotional and personal difficulties and concerns.
About Me: Hi I am Lisa, a humanist counsellor, qualified in the person-centred approach, offering warmth, confidentiality and acceptance so you can talk openly about what’s on your mind. I believe that being truly heard and understood can be the starting point for meaningful change. I aim to facilitate this by using empathic listening skills, working collaboratively with you at your pace and helping you to explore your thoughts and feelings and make sense of your experiences. While my core approach is person-centred, I also draw on elements of CBT, psychodynamic, and existential therapies, tailoring the work to suit your needs.

Counselling is your confidential space to talk. You may be seeking clarity on an issue, or want to explore things that are overwhelming you, and if you wish, make changes in your life. I hope that by talking to a professional during these difficult times can bring peace. I offer a safe space as we unravel together the aspects of you that are struggling or stuck. And help you to find new perspectives to deal with living the way that you want to live.

My passion for wanting to support mums was borne out of my own difficult journey into motherhood. A challenging pregnancy and a traumatic birth followed by severe postnatal depression and PTSD fuelled my drive to working with mums to make their journeys more manageable and enjoyable. Having worked hard on recovering from this difficult start to motherhood, I went on to train as a counsellor at the University of Edinburgh (MSc) and Chrysalis (Postgraduate Diploma). I have completed numerous trainings on trauma - specifically birth trauma and continue to participate in CPDs to inform my practice as a perinatal mental health therapist

It can be extremely daunting to start your journey in therapy and this is why I have a very professional and relaxed approach. After an assessment, we would be able to establish how we can work together and what that would entail. This is often the beginning of an amazing journey.

You may have always felt a little different or out of step, without quite knowing why. Perhaps you’re starting to recognise yourself in conversations about autism, ADHD, or neurodivergence, or you’re simply curious about understanding yourself more fully. You might feel tired, overwhelmed, or unsure about relationships, work, or past experiences. In therapy with me, you’ll find a gentle, calm, and understanding space where you can slow down, feel heard, reflect safely, and explore things at your own pace — without pressure, judgment, or needing to have all the answers. I also provide clinical supervision for other therapists.

My goal is for you to feel respected, heard, and understood — because every person is worthy of care, compassion, and the chance to heal.

I work relationally, recognising how our social, political and ecological environments affect wellbeing. I offer counselling for focused work and psychotherapy for deeper exploration and reconnection. A diagnosis or way of coping is just one small part of a much bigger story. And they always make sense in the context of someone's life experiences. I am passionate about meeting people and being with them as they gently begin to unravel the tangled web. Whether you are living with anxiety, depression, trauma or other mental health challenges, I offer a space to meet you where you are with care and curiosity.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
