Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counselling in Midlothian
I combine evidence-based tools (CBT, mindfulness, compassion-focused practice) with a person-centred style so every plan is realistic and relevant to your life.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by stress, anxiety or burnout? Do you feel stuck and unable to cope with life's difficulties? I support adults to feel calmer, more confident and find practical ways forward — face-to-face in Roslin (near Edinburgh) and online across the UK.
If work, relationships or life changes are leaving you exhausted, stuck or on edge, counselling can help. I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can be heard and start to make sense of what’s happening. Together we’ll explore what’s getting in the way, and I’ll help you develop simple, practical tools you can use in day-to-day life.

I work with a person centered approach as well as including elements of CBT, mindfulness, Hypnotherapy, relaxation techniques and Aromatherapy treatments.
I believe that it's important for an individual to find the right counsellor, as one counsellors method may not suit all. I therefore offer my initial consultation at a reduced rate. The initial consultation is not only an opportunity for the counsellors to find out more about the client but also for the client to find out more about the counsellor, giving both the opportunity to discover if a suitable rapport can be built, creating an appropriate environment for counselling to take place.

Sessions include opportunities to integrate traditional psychotherapy modalities, EMDR therapy, parts work, somatic & mindfulness.
Therapy is a space to be, a gift of self-care. This is an opportunity to receive, to be heard, to learn healthy and adaptive ways to be in relationship with self and others. My approach is wholistic, integrative, and intuitive; guiding you to identify, feel, and understand your needs and emotions, reset and nurture the nervous system, learn to hold boundaries, and connect to your authentic self. Helping identify and transmute beliefs that no longer serve, from "I'm not good enough" to "I am worthy"; moving from fear to love & acceptance. Helping the mind-brain to communicate and ground into your heart and body.

I don’t know if you have ever had the opportunity to share your story where someone really listens. I mean really listens, wanting to know you, your story, your ups and downs. Where nothing is off limits. Space to speak what maybe you’ve never spoken before. Sitting in the counsellee seat is not always easy and opening up to someone you do not know can be daunting. I know that taking that first step requires courage and I would love to walk with you on your journey.

I became a Psychotherapist because I’ve seen what it’s like when life breaks you open — when love hurts more than it heals, when you lose yourself trying to hold everything together. But, I have also seen the other side of recovery where pain is turned into healing, boundaries and a greater self worth!
My work now is about helping others find their way back to safety, confidence, and connection — whether that’s healing from domestic abuse, rebuilding after trauma, or learning how to have healthy, grounded relationships again.
If you’re ready to understand yourself better and start feeling stronger then you’re in the right place.

You might look like you’re coping on the outside — but internally, it feels overwhelming or exhausting. Maybe your thoughts won’t switch off, or relationships leave you feeling confused or drained. You may feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, overthinking, low mood, depression, the impact of past or traumatic experiences, burn out or repetitive relationship issues, where nothing you try seems to change things for long. Together, with individual CBT or couples counselling, we can begin to make sense of what’s happening and find a way forward.

Don’t worry if you don’t feel ready to speak yet. Sometimes we begin with colour, image, silence, or simply what feels present. I use art as a gentle medium alongside therapy. My style is: your style, your pace, your story and how you want it.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
