My speciality is in working with Trauma, I have worked for 25yrs supporting men and women who have experienced Childhood Abuse, Domestic Abuse or Rape & Sexual
Assault
.
I am an experienced Counsellor and can offer a safe and confidential space to help you look at what it is that is making life difficult. We all at times struggle to know how to manage and cope with how we feel and whilst we know it's important to look after our physical health, we also need to take care of our hearts and minds, I see my role as one of helping you make sense of what might be causing you to feel depressed, anxious, even that life feels too much, your relationships might be affected or going to work is just too hard, you might know the cause and just need to be heard and supported to see a way forward.

/abuse.
Welcome. I aim to offer a warm, caring and genuine space, ensuring that the client has a physical and emotional ‘space’ to be heard and understood and their particular needs met. Being a pluralistic therapist, I know that different people are helped by different therapeutic methods and activities at different times. I believe that empathy and the therapeutic relationship is central to my way of working and the foundation to the way I practice. I strive to be a good listener with an ability to ‘hold’ difficult stories which helps the client feel safe and share concerns.

My firm belief is that the first meeting is vital to building a good rapport and I pride myself on supporting my clients on their initial phone call, our first meeting and continuing throughout therapy. This allows the person to feel safe, secure and relaxed, whilst exploring their issues from past and/or present. Exploring past or present traumatic events in a clients life is my speciality however some clients may not want to explore past trauma, then the clients choice is ultimately important & respected. Clients are at the heart of every session and have the right to explore where they feel comfortable.

While I'm especially interested in working with existential issues and those affected by narcissism, I'm also experienced in working with
sexual abuse
and young people with attachment difficulties.
Hi there, my name is Ana and I'm a psychodynamic counsellor specializing in parental narcissism and existential issues. If you feel stuck in a loop or unable to find joy in life, I can offer my curiosity, empathy, and insights to help you find meaning in your experience. To do this, I will often draw on my background in psychology and philosophy, as well as psychodynamic therapy which looks at the unconscious processes between us and find links between what you're experiencing in the present and your early childhood and family experiences. On top of this, I use a systemic lens when working with families.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
