Marriage Counselling in Kirkcaldy
I enjoy working with couples and individuals and issues ranging anywhere from dealing with the aftermath of an affair, conflict resolution and children to self-discovery, bereavement and loss.
If you are feeling anxious, depressed or confused about your feelings then you have come to the right place. The relationship that you have with your therapist is very important to the healing process. A good therapeutic relationship is built on mutual respect and trust. It is a relationship where we join together to reach the goals you have. In each session we will look at the presenting issue(s) and try to untangle them from different angles. At the end of the session you may be presented with exercises, or "homework", to work on until we meet again.

I specialise in working with gender, sexual, and relationship diversity (GSRD), especially queer identities, including work with neurodivergent clients and with couples, throuples, polycules or anyone embarking on non-normative relationship forms.
Life can be complex, placing pressure on our sense of self and relationships. It is natural to feel anxious, angry, depressed, or withdrawn in response, as these are human reactions shaped by our experiences. Coping strategies that once protected us can become less helpful over time, and this is often why people seek therapy. Together we can explore your story, understand what has shaped you, and create space for new meanings and possibilities. I work at your pace, supporting you through the challenges and losses that often accompany meaningful change.

I see therapy as a process of discovery, healing, and growth. We will explore 'how' you are in relationships, make choices, and co-create your world through embodied dialogue. We will learn and play together. We will look at where you feel ‘stuck’ and what seems ‘difficult.’ We will connect with the embodied feelings and complexities that emerge, making space for deeper understanding and new possibilities.I believe that change happens when we have enough support, when we acknowledge our present situation, and commit to the work. My role is to walk WITH you as you reconnect with your aliveness, joy, spontaneity and creativity.

Starting therapy can seem daunting and scary at first. But it's the first step you have taken to embark on this journey. Feeling isolated and not able to make sense of the world around you? Questioning all that you have grown up with? Racing thoughts constantly clouding your mind? Feeling detached, anxious or upset? Not sure how to process what you are experiencing? All this seems pretty overwhelming but more common than you think. Through acceptance and kindness why not allow yourself to be able to make sense of all this through therapy. Let each session speak for itself and discover different parts of yourself.

Marriage Counselling Counsellors
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
