There are many reasons why someone will seek counselling. Major life changes, even positive ones, can disrupt the balance of everyday life and impact our mental health. Traumas and experiences from our past can intrude on our peace of mind in the present. Bereavement and loss, illness and disability, relationship and work issues can affect our ability to function. Sometimes it feels like we have limited choices and we are unsure of where to turn to for support. Person-centred counselling is a safe and confidential space where you can be yourself and share what is troubling you.

It's tough opening up to someone but we, via the therapeutical alliance, can create a safe space of trust where there is confidentiality, no judgment and that the client feels comfortable sharing. Here are some testimonials from previous clients for you to ponder: Social anxiety- My gran nearly fainted when she saw me ask someone who works in a shop a question, something I've never done in my life before. Grief- My therapist has helped me as I was feeling lonely and it cheered me and made me realise that I do have a future by myself with friends and family to support me. Low self esteem- I've realised I'm stronger than I thought.

I am a relational therapist and take a holistic approach to my clients. Broadly speaking this means I treat the person and not their problem or disorder. Rather than seeing mental health difficulties like depression or anxiety as something wrong with you that need to be fixed, I view them as valid and understandable responses to challenging life experiences. My work as a therapist is informed by both my academic training as well as my own personal struggles in striving for good mental health. I try to combine my theoretical knowledge of what can help with my own personal understanding of how challenging our lives and strugges can be

Anxiety and Depression , to me, are natural emotions that everybody experience in response to something. However, these can become a prison if they become a constant in life. I want to help you work through your fears by understanding them and through your depression by offering you a genuine human-human relationship, for you to regain your energy and courage until you feel confident in yourself again.

Are past events stopping you from moving forward with your life? Do you feel anxious, depressed , stressed, but you cant pinpoint why? That is often the case with mental health, you know there is something just not working properly but you don't know how to fix it. Although you can't change the past, you can learn not to let it control you. CBT is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. CBT believes that your thoughts about a certain situation can often affect how you feel emotionally and physically. I can help you change those unhelpful thinking styles. Just say hello.

Before completing my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, I completed a Masters in Psychological Therapy, focussing on treating adults with problems such as anxiety, depression & sleep disorders using a CBT framework.
Within my practice, it is imperative that all clients are aware that therapy is taken at their individual pace. Following a thorough assessment, I help clients understand their current difficulties by building a narrative of what past events have contributed to the current problem and what may be maintaining it. From this, we collaboratively create an individual treatment plan that targets the presenting problem/s using the most relevant therapeutic approach available.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
