Hi, I am Sara, I'm a Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP), and I specialise in supporting people through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I believe therapy should feel like a safe, non-judgmental space where you can talk openly, build confidence, and discover new ways of coping. I’ll always meet you with compassion, understanding, and a genuine belief in your ability to make positive change. I am truly passionate about helping people find their way forward, and I'd be honoured to walk alongside you as you take steps toward the life you want and deserve.

You're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply not yourself—and you're looking for real change, not just quick fixes. Maybe anxiety, self-doubt, or a difficult life transition is making it hard to feel grounded or move forward. You might be high-functioning on the outside, but inside you're exhausted and unsure where to turn. You want support from someone who truly sees you, listens without judgment, and helps you reconnect with your sense of self.

I have experience supporting clients through cancer, bereavement, trauma, addiction, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and times of big change.
Hi, I’m Arlene. Thank you for taking the time to be here. Reaching out for support can be one of the bravest steps you take, and I’m glad you’re considering it. I’m a pluralistic counsellor with a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and COSCA membership. What this really means is that I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I work with you to find the style, pace, and direction of therapy that feels right for your life and your experiences. I draw from person-centred work, CBT, psychodynamic ideas, and creative methods—but the heart of our work will always be you and what matters to you.

I bring specific expertise in working with adult survivors of trauma, addressing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and working with addiction.
Do you find yourself feeling disconnected, lost, or struggling with your sense of identity after a traumatic experience? Trauma can often lead to a profound sense of disconnection from oneself. Together, we'll explore different techniques, empowering you to reconnect with your true identity, rediscover your strengths, and reclaim your sense of self. Not all emotions or experiences can be easily put into words. I incorporate creative methods to explore emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a non-verbal way, fostering a deeper understanding and facilitating healing.

I have also survived my own life issues, including addictions and have been sober for 25yrs.
I can do room based sessions in Central Glasgow, going at your pace and directed by you. I work in a very person centred way but also gently challenge behaviours which I think will impede your progress. If you do not live local to Glasgow I can arrange sessions via Zoom, however I am two minutes from Central Station, so transport from most places is reliable

I can help in areas such as addiction, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, OCD, panic attack, personality disorder, PTSD, and self-esteem.
Bu Therapy works with YOU. You are, after all, the expert with what is going on in your life today. Together we will work on areas that might be affecting your life and what you would like to change. CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) looks at the present rather than the past and identifies negative or maladaptive thinking styles that make you see things differently and out of focus. I will work with you in a collaborative manner so we can correct this “blurred view” of life and bring clarity, focus, and direction back into your life, and “together we can come out of the darkness and into the light".

My work has covered a diverse set of peoples issues, ranging from trauma, bereavement and addiction, to relationship issues or any other aspects of life which may have become a burden.
As a therapist, I firmly believe that each of us holds the answers to our own issues within. My role here is to help you recognise these and support you in working through them. I will aim to create a trusting counselling relationship throughout our sessions, where you can feel able to express your feelings in an empathic and accepting environment. Through this collaboration, our aim would be for you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, in turn facilitating the change you are aspiring to achieve.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
