I have particular experience in working with trauma and sexual abuse, but you can use counselling for all sorts of issues, for example self-esteem, stress, depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationships, suicidal thoughts, harassment at work, identity issues, breakup, or decision-making.
My method of counselling is called person-centred. This recognises that we all experience our lives in our own individual way. It may not feel this way, but you have the potential to know more about yourself than anyone else. My job is to help you understand yourself better and find your own inner compass so you make decisions which suit you better.

I have special interest in complex trauma, personality disorders and bereavement and working with families and couples
Gestalt Therapy looks at the whole person and is holistic in its approach This means that what ever is happening in the person's life they can bring it to counselling and talk things through and work towards creative sustainable solutions and coping strategies. The family systems approach says that the family is more than the sum of its parts. When something affects one member of the group, it can have a resounding impact on every other member of the family. For that same reason, the strength and stability of the family unit can provide balance and support when one family member is experiencing problems.

Talking about our experiences and emotions can feel daunting, especially when we have been carrying things on our own for a long time. You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or struggling to make sense of what you are going through, and that's ok. Together, we will explore these experiences in a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space. By being heard and understood within a trusting relationship, we begin to make sense of what you are carrying. Over time, this can open up new ways of relating to yourself and others, helping you move forward in a way that feels more manageable and meaningful.

After my initial qualification, I have extensive training in special areas of interest, including somatic techniques for trauma, anxiety, identity and shame.
I work with high functioning adults who appear capable and self assured on the outside, but feel anxious, burnt out, or not enough underneath. Many struggle with attachment anxiety, fear of rejection, people pleasing, or self doubt that shows up most strongly in relationships. You might find yourself overthinking, worrying someone will pull away, feeling deeply affected by cancelled plans, or swinging between independence and longing for closeness. You may also carry professional pressure and high expectations while quietly feeling exhausted from always holding it together.

Person Centred therapy is my core modality, but I also use a trauma therapy (Deep Brain Reorienting) when I think it will be helpful to my client and have found it to be very useful.
I have trained and practise as a person centred counsellor because I believe everyone has the potential to reach inside and find their own strength and resources, with a little help . There are times in all of our lives when we feel we need some extra help to cope with life events and struggles. I would like to help you through whatever it is that brings you here. Whether it is work, life events, or you're not sure what is wrong but feel something is not right, it can help to share your feelings with that impartial, non-judgemental someone, allowing you to clarify your own thoughts and helping you to see a way through.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
